Alabama High School Team Preview: John Carroll Cavaliers

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Cavaliers return 8 of 9 positional starters this year as many of those players have seen plenty of action at the varsity level since their freshman seasons. The team will be looking for some younger players to add much needed depth in 2021. Senior MIF JT Weisberg is one of those key returners as the athletic SS returns to the middle of the field in the dirt. A good runner, Weisberg also handles the bat well and should be a key hitter in the middle of the Cavalier lineup. Another senior is OF Luke Harris. The 5'10 175 pounder shows premium athleticism with a very short, compact approach at the plate with a line drive approach. The senior shows solid actions in the outfield with solid arm strength. Two other key returnees are senior LHP Mitchell Walker and freshman OF Aden Malpass. Walker shows a solid three pitch mix from the left side with solid action on his pitches as he mixes pitches well in any count. Malpass (5'11 185 lbs.) is a solid nice looking young prospect that shows nice bat speed and a solid middle of the field approach from the left side. Senior INF William Ydarraga enters his senior season prepared to be an RBI producer and solid defender on the infield. Ydarraga brings some physicality to the team at 6'3 190 pounds. Joining OF Aden Malpass in the outfield this season is junior Campbell McFadden. The 2022 grad has some power off the bat and does a very solid job of tracking balls down off the bat. Three sophomores to keep an eye on are:

2023 OF Seth Seidenfaden- Physically mature youngster that has a solid skill set defensively and continues to fine tune his offensive approach.

2023 INF Aaron Malpass- The 5’10” 176 pounder shows solid actions with the glove in the dirt and is a tough out at the plate. Very athletic sophomore.

2023 INF Luke Wammack- Another impressive looking sophomore infielder for the Cavaliers that shows some strength in the hands at the plate.

2021 looks to set up nicely for the experienced John Carroll Cavaliers.
