Alabama High School Team Preview: Hatton Hornets

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Hornets enter 2A Area 14 play this season with a roster filled with a number of players that can play a number of different positions. There is a solid nucleus of returning players but the team will also depend on some inexperienced players at key postions. Two seniors head into the 2021 season and will be counted on as a position player and as an arm on the mound. Wil Terry is 2B/RHP that will log a lot of innings this spring. The left handed hitting middle infielder will also be counted on to provide an offensive spark for the Hornets. Senior Presley Bradford is the other senior that will provide leadership and two way talent to the team. The RHP/1B has a solid build (5'10 195 lbs.) and that strength carries over to the bat at the plate. Bradford will handle 1B when he is not on the bump. Speedy senior Jaxson Mitchell returns to man an outfield spot this season and will be counted on to be a "table setter" for the offense in 2021. Mitchell handles the bat well to all fields. Sophomore 1B/DH Braden Stafford brings some physicality to the team and the batters box. Stafford has some juice to the pull side and will be counted on to be an RBI producer for the Hornets this spring. These returners will lead the way and they will also count on some younger players to take on vital roles this season.
