Team Alabama Game 1 Quick Hits

Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

Team Alabama turned in a very impressive performance in winning Game 1 of the Future Games over Team Florida 4-1.  Here are some of the top performers:

Trent Hodgdon, RHP/3B (‘21 Smiths Station HS)- The 6’2 190 pounder had one of the more complete performances for Team Alabama this morning. On the mound, Hodgdon showcased electric stuff, sitting 85-88 mph w/ the FB. CB showed depth and was thrown for strikes in his inning of work. Offensively, Hodgdon was 2-2 w/ a 1B and an RBI 2B to tie the game in the early innings. The rising junior did it all today.

Chandler Brewer, OF/1B (‘21 Hazel Green HS)- After a loud round of BP during the workout yesterday, Brewer picked up right where he left off in his 1st AB with a scorcher off the LF wall for a long single. At 6’1 190 lbs, the ball jumps off the bat.

Carson Howard, RHP (‘21 Saint James)- In his lone inning of work on the bump, Howard worked a very clean frame as he pounded the zone with his FB that ran up to 86 mph. 2 K’s in his inning. Slated to throw again on Saturday.

Matthew Omohundro, 3B (‘21 Northview HS)- The loudest swing of the game came from the bat of the 6’0 180 pounder. Omohundro drilled a fastball to LF that cleared the wall in his 2nd AB of the game. Very impressive round of BP during the workout yesterday.

Trey Burrell, OF (‘21 Hewitt Trussville HS)- Burrell looked locked in during his BP round yesterday, and it carried over into his 1st AB this morning. Burrell got an 86 mph FB on the outer ½ of the plate and poked it to RF for a single. 6.8 runner.

Jack Williamson, SS/RHP (‘21 Winfield City HS)- Williamson showcased a middle approach during Game 1. In his 2 AB’s, the rising junior had 2 base hits over the 2nd baseman’s head for singles. Above average runner. Slated to throw an inning on the mound Saturday.

Steven Cash, LHP (‘22 Bibb County HS)- Cash worked a very quick inning on the mound for Team Alabama in the 3rd. The southpaw pounded the zone with his FB (80-81 mph) and mixed in quality secondary pitches. A typical LH arm that comes in and just gets outs. Will throw again on Saturday.
