The Alabama Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games. Special thank you to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week. These stats are for games played between March 4th-9th.

Let's check out some of the top performances from Week 3 of the 2024 high school season.

 

Connor Gehr SS / RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024 Gehr finds his name on the list again this week as he went 4-6 (.667) with a double and a triple. He also drove in a run and scored two more runs while finishing with an OBP of.750. The Meridian CC recruit was also 1-0 on the mound with a complete-game win and a save. He scattered five hits, did not allow a run and struck out 13 hitters.

Mac Anderson RHP / OF / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024 The Houston recruit (RHP) was 7-11 (.636) with a double and two runs driven in. While he also is a front line arm for the Dolphins, Anderson scored four runs to go along with five stolen bases.

Joseph Stephens SS / RHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2024 The Coastal Alabama South CC recruit was 8-13 (.615) on the week with five runs driven in and six runs scored. He was hit-by-pitch once and had six stolen bases for the 5A No. 2 Dolphins.

Alex Harrison OF / LHP / Oak Mountain, AL / 2024 Harrison was 6-13 (.462) for the 7A No. 5 Eagles and had a .556 OBP a week ago. He drove in two runs and scored eight runs while walking four times. The uncommitted senior also had a four stolen bases.

Jacob Pearl 2B / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2024 Pearl went 5-10 (.500) last week with a double, triple and home run. The Montevallo recruit drove in five runs and scored nine as well. He also walked five times and had a stolen base.

Braden Booth 3B / RHP / Bob Jones , AL / 2024 The Mississippi State recruit was 6-12 (.500) with a double and a home run as he drove in four runs. He scored two runs, walked three times and had a stolen base. On the mound, Booth went five innings (1-0) and did not allow a run and only gave up two hits. He struck out 12 opposing hitters.

Zackary Johnson C / OF / Bob Jones , AL / 2025 The Alabama recruit hit an even .500 (6-12) a week ago for the 7A No. 1 Patriots. He had a homerun and drove in six runs while also walking three times. He also scored two runs and had two stolen bases.

Reece Cato 1B / LHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2024 Cato, an uncommitted senior, was 4-10 (.400) last week with a homerun and five runs driven in. Hitting in the heart of the Patriots lineup, he also scored a run, walked once and had a stolen base.

Connor Gatwood RHP / SS / Baker , AL / 2024 The Auburn recruit (RHP) had a solid week offensively for the Hornets as he was 4-7 (.571) last week with two homeruns and three runs driven in. He also scored three runs and walked once. One of his homeruns tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning in their win versus Bayside Academy.

Coley Gilstrap OF / 1B / Hamilton High School, AL / 2027 The freshman tossed 9.1 innings on the mound as he went 1-0 with a save. He did not allow a run while striking out ten and only allowed four hits. He also hit .364 (.533 OBP) with three runs driven in and three runs scored.

Houston Tibbs SS / OF / Hamilton, AL / 2027 The freshman was 8-12 (.667) with seven runs driven in and nine runs scored. He had an OBP of .750 with three walks and three stolen bases. Tibbs has also been solid defensively for the Aggies.

Mason Holloway OF / 2B / Hamilton, AL / 2027 Another freshman contributor for the Aggies, Holloway was 7-12 (.683) last week with five runs driven in and eight runs scored. He walked twice and stole seven bases, including stelaing home for the go-ahead run in the county championship game.

Tyler Pierce SS / RHP / Boaz, AL / 2025 An uncommitted junior, Pierce was 1-0 (7 IP) in a complete-game win where a took a no-hitter to the final out of the game. He did not allow a run, walked two and struck out 13. He was also 4-7 (.571) with three doubles and four runs driven in.

Angelo Alberghina SS / 2B / Southside High School, AL / 2025 The sophomore shortstop was 6-13 (.462) last week with two doubles and a homerun. He drove in eight runs and finished with a .500 OBP. One of his two homeruns sparked a big comeback in a win over Moody.

Matthew Cash SS / RHP / Bibb County , AL / 2024 Cash, a Jacksonville State recruit, was 8-14 (.571) with two doubles, a triple and a homerun (grand slam) last week. He drove in eight runs, scored six runs and had two stolen bases. On the mound, he was 1-0 (7 IP) with a complete-game win as he allowed two hits, no runs and struck out ten.

Miles Edwards RHP / SS / Lauderdale County, AL / 2024 The Wallace-Hanceville recruit was 8-11 (.727) with a home run and two doubles for 3A No. 7 Lauderdale County. Edwards also drove in four runs and scored six more runs while stealing a base as well.

Bryant Durbin OF / RHP / Baker, AL / 2024 Durbin, a Bishop State CC recruit, was 1-0 on the week with a win over Cottage Hill. He went six innings on the mound and did not allow an earned run as he scattered three hits. He also struck out ten over those six innings.

Jackson Chandler C / OF / Hamilton, AL / 2027 Chandler, a freshman, went 1-0 last week with a complete game (6 IP) win over Marion County. He allowed only one hit and one earned run while striking out five hitters as the Aggies have gotten off to an impressive start in 2024.

Davis Shiver SS / RHP / Enterprise , AL / 2026 The uncommitted sophomore was 2-0 last week as he tossed 11 innings on the mound. He scattered eight hits and allowed two runs and walked only one. He struck out ten and opposing hitters only hit .200 against him.

Jake Thornton RHP / 3B / Madison County , AL / 2024 The Calhoun CC recruit finds his name on the list again as he turned in complete game win for the Tigers last week. Thornton went all seven innings on the mound to get the win as he only allowed four hits. He allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out 12 hitters.

Grayson Hays RHP / 3B / Athens , AL / 2024 Hays, an uncommitted senior, went 2-0 last week as he helped the Golden Eagles to wins over James Clemens and Southside. He tossed 13 innings and only allowed six hits while walking three. Hays struck out eight and allowed only two earned runs.

Skylar Tucker 1B / LHP / Lauderdale County, AL / 2025 Tucker went 1-0 last week with a win over Wilson. He struck out ten opposing hitters over five innings. He scattered five hits and only allowed one earned run while only walking one hitter.

Maddox Weigart RHP / Lauderdale County High School, AL / 2025 The uncommitted junior tossed six innings of no-hit baseball a week ago for the Tigers. He did not allow a run while walking only two hitters. He struck out five in a win against West Limestone.

Logan Moller RHP / Chelsea, AL / 2024 The Tennessee Tech recruit continues a dominant start to the 2024 season as he tossed a no-hitter against Briarwood Christian. Moller went all seven innings on the mound on just 82 pitches as he struck out nine, walked one and did not allow a run.

Levi Nickoli SS / RHP / Homewood, AL / 2026 Nickoli, a switch-hitting shortstop and Auburn recruit, was dominant on the mound for the Patriots in two relief appearances last week. He went 3.1 innings on the mound and picked up a save in each contest. He inherited three base runners and none of them would score. He allowed one hit and did not walk anyone while giving up no runs and striking out six.
