Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 4


Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

The Alabama Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games. Special thank you to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week. These stats are for games played between March 11th-16th.

Let's check out some of the top performances from Week 4 of the 2024 high school season.

 

Braden Booth 3B / RHP / Bob Jones , AL / 2024

Another week with the Mississippi State recruit to find his name on this list as he hit .500 (9-18) last week with two doubles and a triple while driving in nine runs. He also scored ten runs, stole two bases and walked five times. On the mound he was 1-0 with 6.2 innings pitched. He did not allow a run while striking out 13 as opposing hitters hit only .091 against him. 

Gresham Baker OF / 3B / Bob Jones, AL / 2024

Baker, a Bevil State recruit, was 5-17 (.357) with two doubles and a triple. He also drove in four runs and scored 11 times for the 7A No. 2 Patriots. He walked six times and stole five bases. 

Zackary Johnson C / OF / Bob Jones , AL / 2025

The Alabama recruit was 8-10 (.400) last week as the Patriots went 6-1 during that the week. He had two doubles and two triples to go along with a walk. Johnson also drove in 11 runs. 

Jacob Pearl 2B / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2024

Hitting out of the leadoff spot for the 7A No. 2 Patriots, Pearl was 6-17 (.353) with three doubles. The Montevallo recruit drove in two runs and scored seven more. He walked four times and also stole a base.  

Kevin Jasinski SS / RHP / Oak Mountain, AL / 2024

Jasinski, an uncommitted senior, was 6-13 (.462) last week for the 7A No. 7 Eagles. Of those six hits, two were homeruns as he drove in five runs. He also walked twice and scored three runs. 

Payton Purser RHP / RHP / Hamilton , AL / 2024

Another uncommitted senior, Purser was 6-10 (.600) a week ago with two home runs, a double and a triple. He drove in five runs and had an OBP of .667 as the Aggies continued their hot start to the 2024 season. 

Mason Holloway OF / 2B / Hamilton, AL / 2027

The freshman finds his name on the list again as he was 7-13 (.538) a week ago driving in a pair of runs and scoring five as well. Holloway, who can play a lot of positions on the field, had a stolen base and ended the week with a .600 OBP.

Tyler Pierce SS / RHP / Boaz, AL / 2025

Pierce, an uncommitted junior, continues to lead the way for the 5A No. 3 Pirates. Last week he tossed a six inning perfect game against Guntersville where he struck out six in only 48 pitches (39 strikes). He was also 5-10 (.500) with three doubles while driving in three runs. 

Daniel Posey C / 1B / Boaz, AL / 2024

Posey, an uncommitted senior catcher, was 7-13 (.538) last week. Of those seven hits, four were doubles while he also drove in seven runs as the Pirates went 3-1 for the week. 

Ethan Santos SS / Baker, AL / 2024

A Bishope State recruit, Santos was 5-7 (.714) last week with two doubles, a run scored and a stolen base. On the mound he was 1-0 (7 IP) with six strikeouts while only allowing two runs. He scattered six hits over his seven innings of work. 

Chase Cartron LHP / 1B / Huntsville, AL / 2024

Cartron, a Troy recruit, was 6-12 (.500) at the plate with a double and a triple. He finished the week with a .571 OBP. On the mound he was dominant in his outing versus 5A No. 2 Gulf Shores, tossing a no-hitter (6 IP) with nine strikeouts and he did not allow a run. 

Corbin Driskell C / RHP / Southside, AL / 2025

An uncommitted junior, Driskell was 6-11 (.545) last week with a double and a homerun while also driving in eight runs. On the mound he went 1-0 with six innings pitched. He allowed one hit and one earned run while striking out ten. Opposing hitters hit only .059 against him. 

Kutter Johnson 1B / RHP / Southside High School, AL / 2024

Johnson was 8-15 (.533) a week ago with five runs driven in. The uncommitted senior was also 1-0 on the mound as opposing hitters hit only .154 against him. He tossed seven innings and only gave up four hits. He allowed one earned run, did not walk a batter and struck out six. 

Sam Carter C / 3B / Shelby County, AL / 2024

Carter, a Central Alabama CC recruit, was 6-12 (.500) last week for the 5A No. 9 Wildcats. He had a homerun and a triple while driving in six runs. He reached base six additional times (three via walk and three via hit-by-pitch) to finish with an OBP of .667. He also stole three bases. 

JT Johnson C / James Clemens, AL / 2024

The Snead State recruit was 8-13 (.615) last week for the 7A No. 8 Jets. Handling the Jets pitching staff from behind the plate, Johnson also drove in a run and reached base once via walk. He also stole a base. 

Carson Loosier OF / James Clemens, AL / 2024

Loosier, an uncommitted senior, was 7-12 (.583) last week with a double and two runs driven in. He also scored three runs and stole two bases. In addition to the seven hits, he also reached base four additional times via walk or hit-by-pitch. 

Reece Mims 1B / RHP / Helena, AL / 2024

The uncommitted senior has been instrumental in helping the Huskies to a 6A No. 5 ranking as he went 7-12 (.583) last week with a home run and two doubles. He drove in four runs as well.  

Bryson Sheppard 1B / LHP / Smiths Station High School, AL / 2026

An uncommitted sophomore, Sheppard was 8-13 (.615) last week for the Panthers. He had a triple and two doubles to go along with three runs driven in. He also walked twice and scored six runs. 

Dillon Adkins OF / LHP / Bob Jones High School, AL / 2025

The Tennessee recruit has helped the Patriots to a 7A No. 2 ranking in a two-way role but last week saw him assert himself on the mound as he went 2-0 with a save. Over his 5.1 innings of work, he allowed only two hits and and no runs. He struck out 11 hitters and opponents only hit .118 against him. 

Jack Shaw RHP / OF / Bob Jones High School, AL / 2025

An uncommitted junior, Shaw was 1-0 last week with six innings pitched. He allowed one earned run and scattered three hits. He allowed one walk and struck out eight opposing hitters. 

Alex Harrison OF / LHP / Oak Mountain, AL / 2024

Harrison, an uncommitted senior, has helped the Eagles to a 7A No. 7 ranking. Last week he made two relief appearances and tossed five innings to get the win in both contests. He did not allow a run and struck out seven. 

Evan Taylor SS / 2B / Headland, AL / 2024

The Wallace-Dothan recruit went 1-0 last week as a he tossed a complete game gem as the Rams got off to a good start in area play. Over his seven innings of work, Taylor struck out eight and walked only one. He scattered six hits and allowed only one earned run. 

Trey Scott OF / RHP / Headland, AL / 2024

Scott, a Coastal Alabama-North recruit, also went 1-0 last week for the 5A No. 8 Rams in area play. He went five innings on the mound and did not a run while striking out five. He allowed two hits and walked one. 

Landen Walker LHP / Baldwin County, AL / 2024

The Montevallo recruit was stellar in his outing against Northview (FL) as he turned in a complete game (7 IP) win. He allowed two hits and walked ony two. He did not allow a run while strinking out 18 opposing hitters. 

Logan Fitzgerald LHP / Gardendale, AL / 2024

In a marquee 6A matchup, Fitzgerald was magnificent for 6A No. 3 Gardendale as they edged 6A No. 4 Mountain Brook 2-0. The Bishop State CC recruit turned in a complete game shutout (7 IP) and only allowed three hits. He also struck out 11 while only walking one. 

Connor Gehr SS / RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024

The Meridian CC recruit turned in one of the top performances of the week as the 5A No. 2 Dolphins defeated 7A No. 2 Bob Jones by a score of 2-1. Gehr went all seven innings on the mound as he allowed one earned run on two hits. He walked only two and struck out 12. 

Ethan Bucher SS / RHP / Minor, AL / 2025

Bucher, an uncommitted junior, went 1-0 last week for the Tigers. He twirled a seven inning complete game win over Shades Valley as he struck out 16 opposing hitters. He allowed two runs and scattered four hits over his seven inning stint. 

Nate Owen SS / RHP / Shelby County High School, AL / 2024

Owen, an uncommitted senior, turned in a complete game win as he went seven innings and did not allow a run for the 5A No. 9 Wildcats. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out seven. 

Cooper Pennington RHP / 1B / Shelby County High School, AL / 2026

An uncommitted sophomore, Pennington tossed a complete game four inning no-hitter last week for the Wildcats. He did not allow a run, walked only two and struck out 11 opposing hitters.  

Satchel Wheeler LHP / 1B / James Clemens, AL / 2024

The Snead State recruit turned in a masterful performance on Friday night versus Father Ryan (TN) as he finished with a complete game no-hitter. Over his seven innings of work, Wheeler did not allow a run and walked only four. He finshed the night with ten strikeouts.
