The Alabama Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games. Special thank you to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week. These stats are for games played between March 18th-23rd.

 

Let's check out some of the top performances from Week 5 of the 2024 high school season.

 

Sam Brown SS / RHP / Central High School, AL / 2025 Brown, an uncommitted junior, was 8-13 (.615) last week for the 7A No. 1 Red Devils. He had two homeruns, a double and a triple. He drove in six runs and scored 11 as well. He also walked four times and had a stolen base.

Connor Gatwood RHP / SS / Baker , AL / 2024 The Auburn recruit finds his name on the list again this week after going 5-7 (.714) a week ago with two doubles and a triple. He also scored four runs and walked once for the Hornets.

Cooper Jarvis / OF / Gardendale, AL / 2024 Jarvis, a Gadsden State recruit, was 5-13 (.385) last week for the 6A No. 3 Rockets. He had a double, a triple and two homeruns with seven runs driven in. He hit for the cycle on March 18 in the Rockets win over Mortimer Jordan.

Mac Anderson RHP / OF / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024 The Houston recruit was 4-10 (.400) a week ago with three doubles and a homerun. He drove in four runs, scored three more and got on base four more times vis walk or hit-by-pitch (.529 OBP). He also tossed five innings of no-hit baseball and did not allow a run while striking out eight opposing hitters and only walking one.

Jacob O'Bryan OF / Gulf Shores High School, AL / 2026 The sophomore outfielder was 7-13 (.538) last week for the 5A No. 2 Dolphins. O'Bryan drove in four runs and scored two runs while adding a stolen base.

Jackson Beck OF / RHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2024 The Lawson State CC recruit was 7-13 (.538) last week with two doubles and eight runs scored. He was hit-by-pitch twice and walked twice to finsh with a .647 OBP. Beck also stole nine bases.

Trey Scott OF / RHP / Headland, AL / 2024 Scott, a Coastal Alabama-North recruit, went seven innings on the mound to go 1-0 and only allowed four hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Offensively he was 4-13 (.308) with a double and a homerun. He drove in five runs.

Evan Taylor SS / 2B / Headland, AL / 2024 Taylor, a Wallace-Dothan recruit, was 6-15 (.400) last week for the 5A No. 8 Rams. He drove in four runs to go with two doubles. He also added two stolen bases.

Wade Shelley OF / OF / Headland, AL / 2025 The Auburn recruit was 5-9 (.556) last week for the 5A No. 8 Rams. Shelley, a junior, had a double and a triple while driving in three runs.

Evan Brazelton OF / OF / Arab , AL / 2025 An uncommitted junior, Brazelton was 7-14 (.500) for the Knights. He scored seven runs and also drove in five runs during the week.

Andrew Carroll C / OF / Arab, AL / 2024 Carroll was 5-11 (.455) last week for the Knights. A senior Coastal Alabama-South CC recruit, he had two doubles and six runs driven in.

Zackary Johnson C / OF / Bob Jones , AL / 2025 Johnson, an Alabama recruit, continues to put up big numbers in 2024 as he was 8-14 (.571) last week with nine runs driven in. He had a double and a homerun while scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Jacob Pearl 2B / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2024 Pearl continues to produce out of the leadoff spot for the 7A No. 2 Patriots as he went 6-16 (.375) last week with two doubles and a homerun. The Montevallo recruit drove in four runs, scored seven and had two stolen bases.

Braden Booth 3B / RHP / Bob Jones , AL / 2024 The Mississippi State recruit was 7-16 (.438) last week with three doubles and four runs driven in. He also scored six runs and added a stolen base. On the mound he was 1-0 with a complete-game shutout, tossing seven innings with six punchouts.

Reece Cato 1B / LHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2024 Cato, an uncommitted senior, continues to produce in the heart of the Patriots order as he was 8-15 (.533) last week with three runs driven in. He scored a run, walked once and stole a base.

Josey Williamson 2B / SS / Hartselle, AL / 2024 Under serious consideration for Mizuno Player of the Week, Williamson was 8-16 (.500) a week ago for the 6A No. 1 Tigers. He had two homeruns (both grand slams) and drove in 16 runs. The Alabama recruit also stole a base.

Cade Miles SS / 2B / Hartselle , AL / 2024 The Jacksonville State recruit was 8-16 (.500) last week as he had a homerun and two doubles. Miles also drove in nine runs and had three stolen bases.

Peyton Steele 3B / RHP / Hartselle , AL / 2024 Steele, an Alabama recruit, was 9-17 (.529) last week for the 6A No. 1 Tigers. He had a homerun and two doubles while also driving in five runs.

Memphis Scott 3B / 2B / Madison County High School, AL / 2025 The uncommitted junior was 6-13 (.462) last week with two doubles and six runs driven in for the 4A No. 9 Tigers. Scott scored seven runs, walked three times and had seven stolen bases.

Noah Stafford SS / 2B / Ardmore, AL / 2026 The uncommitted sophomore was 6-10 (.600) a week ago with two doubles and two runs driven in. He walked twice and was hit-by-pitch once. Stafford scored five runs and had five stolen bases.

Caden Bailes 1B / Ardmore High School, AL / 2024 An uncommitted senior, Bailes was 4-11 (.364) last week with a double and two homeruns. He drove in five runs and scored three times as well.

Myles Johnson OF / RHP / Madison Academy, AL / 2025 An Eastern Kentucky recruit, Johnson was 7-15 (.467) last week with four doubles and and two homeruns for the Mustangs. The junior also drove in five runs as well.

Bryson Sheppard 1B / LHP / Smiths Station High School, AL / 2026 An uncommitted sophomore, Sheppard was 8-12 (.667) last week with a homerun and and three doubles. He walked once, drove in seven runs and scored seven times as well.

Connor Gehr SS / RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024 Gehr, a Meridian CC recruit, was 1-0 last week on the mound as he turned in a complete-game win (7 IP) while only allowing four hits. He walked one, did not allow a run and struck out nine opposing hitters.

Skylar Tucker 1B / LHP / Lauderdale County, AL / 2025 The uncommitted junior was 1-0 last week as he turned in a perfect game win over Lexington. The southpaw went five innings (CG) and did not allow a hit or a run and did not walk anyone. He struck out 13 opposing hitters.

Bryce Gover RHP / 3B / Headland, AL / 2025 An uncommitted junior, Gover was 1-0 last week with a complete game (7 IP) win. He allowed only three hits with one earned run while striking out ten hitters.

Lane Edwards RHP / Arab High School, AL / 2024 An uncommitted senior, Edwards turned in a brilliant performance last week as he was 2-0 with 11 innings pitched as he did not walk anyone. He did not allow a run and struck out four while scattering eight hits. He needed only 66 pitches to turn in a complete-game win vs. Jacksonville.

Seth Frame LHP / Ardmore High School, AL / 2024 An uncommitted senior, Frame was was 1-0 last week as he turned in a complete-game gem (7 IP) and only allowed three hits. He walked one and did not allow an earned run. It took him only 89 pitches over those seven innings.
