2024 Season Preview - BC Class of 2024 Watch List

Carter Cathers OF / 1B / Dover Bay, BC / 2024

A player who jumped onto the scene last year was Carter Cathers. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound athletic outfielder utilizes his current strength on both sides of the ball. In the outfield, he has a strong arm and tracks the ball very well for his size. He has 6.90 60 speed that he uses both in the outfield and on the bases. However, in the box is where he really stands out. Cathers has arguably the most raw power in his class. The strength based swing has plenty of torque generated by a strong lower half and bat speed that allows him to drive the ball with authority all over the field. He has repeatedly shown his ability to do damage against quality arms. The Mid-Island Pirate and Junior National Team product will look to carry this momentum into 2024.

Owen Fernandes RHP / 1B / Maple Ridge, BC / 2024

The former Future Gamer and Yavapai commit has been a name to know in BC for a couple years now. Fernandes really stands out on the mound with his 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame. He has a quick arm and a steep approach angle which both create deception out of the hand. Working down in the zone allows him to create weak ground ball contact and swing & miss with a fastball in the 86-88 mph range. He has two breaking balls, both with unique profiles that he tunnels well out of the hand. He likes to attack hitters early and when filling the zone, there aren’t many who do it better than the Junior National Team and Langley Blaze product.

Ben McKinnon RHP / RHP / Semiahmoo, BC / 2024

The Bossier Parish commit is one the top RHPs in BCs 2024 class. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound White Rock Triton has been up to 89 mph with the fastball out of a high ¾ slot. Mckinnon creates a steep approach angle down in the zone and likes to live there. The curveball profiles more like a slider with sharp horizontal bite to it. The changeup movement profile is similar to that of his fastball but he does a good job adding arm side to it and killing spin, making it an effective offering when located down in the zone. McKinnon made a name for himself in 2023 and will look to do much of the same in 2024.

Kyu Lumsdon RHP / OF / Walnut Grove Secondary, BC / 2024

Lumsdon jumped onto the scene last year and has been pitching well ever since. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound uncommitted 2024 grad saw a big velocity jump and has now been up to 88 mph with the fastball. Easy, low effort delivery out of a high ¾ slot with the ability to spot up the fastball on both sides of the plate. The slider is tight with 2-plane break that he can spin north of 2300 rpm. He also has a changeup that he can get over for strikes at 76-77 mph. If the Langley Blaze product continues trending in this direction, it won’t be long before he’s one of the top RHPs on the West Coast

Riley Kwak SS / OF / Yale Secondary, BC / 2024

The Abbotsford Cardinal is one of the more versatile players in his class. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound speedster shows off his athleticism all over the field. He runs a 6.7 60 yard dash and uses that to his advantage in the infield with his quick feet and range, and in the outfield with his first step and ability to track down fly balls. He has a strong arm that will allow him to possibly stay at a premium position at the next level. At the dish, he has twitchy athleticism that allows him to generate hand and bat speed. He works on a line to all fields and has reached a max exit velocity of 96 mph. The senior shouldn’t be uncommitted for much longer.
