Canadian College/University Showcase (BC): Quick Hits

Brady Turner
West Coast Director

On Saturday, March 2nd the Prep Baseball British Columbia staff hosted its first ever Canadian College/University Showcase at Mcleod Athletic Park. This event featured players from across the province in the 2024 & 2025 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players after an offseason of development, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partners TrackMan.

We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Hitting Data Dive, and Pitching Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on five standouts from the event.

Tyrell Tull RHP / McMath Secondary , BC / 2024

Tull had one of the strongest showings on the mound at the Canadian College/University Showcase. At 6-foot-0, 220-pounds, strength is evident in the Delta right-hander. He flashed two distinct breaking balls, with the curveball being the more impressive, averaging 2070 RPM, -5.5 inches of IVB, and -13.8 inches of HM. The changeup has the potential to be a weapon, averaging 18.4 inches of HM, but could benefit from a bit more separation from the fastball. He featured the highest velocity of the night, topping out at 83.1 MPH with 16.5 inches of IVB. Paired with a 71% strike zone rate, Tull has all the makings of an effective pitcher at the next level.

Ryunosuke Murase LHP / Langley Secondary school, BC / 2025

The Langley left-hander was one of the most intriguing arms on display at the Canadian College/University Showcase. The fastball velocity was lower than usual, topping out at 79.1 MPH but featured the event's best spin rate at 2170 RPM and has been up to 85 MPH in the past. Murase’s changeup has heavy arm side run leading lefties at the event with -15.3 inches of HM. He also demonstrated feel for the slider, spinning it at 2255 RPM with 15.6 inches of HM. Undersized, but with a quick arm and a smooth, over the top delivery, there is plenty of potential.

Henry Cheyne RHP / 1B / Argyle Secondary School, BC / 2025

Cheyne showcases a clean delivery with long levers. He flashed an intriguing curveball, with -6.9 inches of IVB, -8.4 inches of HM, and 2111 RPM. The changeup has the potential to be an effective pitch with 12 inches of HM and an 80% strike zone rate. His fastball sat 75-76 but at 6-foot-3, 165-pounds there is plenty of room for growth. Look for the 16-year-old from Coquitlam to trend upwards as he gains strength and size.

Ryan James RHP / OF / Salmon Arm Secondary, BC / 2024

James, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound, Kamloops Riverdogs product showed well on the mound at the Canadian College/University event. A short, quick arm out of a high ¾ slot creates deception with a fastball that got up to 80 mph, sitting in the 79-80 mph range throughout his bullpen. James also possesses two unique breaking balls, one being a slider with over 13 inches of horizontal break, the other being a curveball with 10+ inches of induced vertical break. He also throws a splitter in which he does a good job killing spin and vertical break on, pairing it well with the fastball. With the ability to locate his repertoire for strikes, his performance should translate well into in-game success.

Hayden Robbins C / 3B / Highland, BC / 2025

The uncommitted 2025 had one of the best overall days at the event. It started behind the dish in which he showed off a strong arm reaching a catcher velocity of 79 mph, and finishing with the best pop-time at the event of 1.98. At the dish, Robbins did an impressive job of using the big part of the field and driving the ball with authority. With a short, compact swing, he reached a max exit velocity of 88.6 mph. The Parksville Royals product showed well and will look to use those tools effectively in-game once the season kicks off.
