TREVOR GOTTSEGEN (UNIVERSITY OF IOWA COMMIT)

Trevor Gottsegen OF / 2B / Highlands Ranch, CO / 2025

The Future Games alumni comes with a plethora of high-end tools thanks to a 6.57 60 yard dash, an 88 mph outfield velocity, and over a 95 mph top exit-velocity. Iowa and many other top colleges got a close look at Gottsegen in Georgia during the Future Games when the athlete blasted an impressive round of batting practice and maintained a higher level approach in the box during the games. Gottsegen also hit .426 with over a 1.000 OPS in 54 at-bats last spring while touching 87 mph off of the mound as well. The junior is one of the top players in the state and is actively developing a higher ceiling as the #1 ranked outfielder in Colorado's 2025 class.

OUR Q&A:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Gottsegen: I was looking for a school where I could make an impact as soon as I got there, but to be 100% honest I had no clue what to expect. I had no school in mind, I just kind of wanted everything to play out and I didn’t want to stress myself out over playing at a huge school.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Gottsegen: Location was not a big factor in my recruiting process. I focused on coaching staff and development to help me become a professional baseball player.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Gottsegen: I was flooded with texts and calls on August 1st but the Iowa coaching staff saw me play at the Future Games and then later at an event in Florida.

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Gottsegen: Throughout the recruiting process I was able to develop a great relationship with the coaching staff at Iowa, and after visiting the campus I pretty much knew it was the place for me. By meeting the coaching staff in person and being able to connect with them, I was able to develop a good relationship and had a strong feeling that was going to be my home by the end of the visit.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Gottsegen: For my final decision, I narrowed it down to the schools I visited and those schools were; Iowa, Loyola Marymount, BYU, and Xavier.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state?

Gottsegen: Trey Gregory-Alford is the best player I’ve probably ever faced and wouldn’t be surprised if it stays that way.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Gottsegen: By the end of my high school season this last year had a good feeling I was going to play at a high level. I was coming off a huge season and knew I had what it takes to play at that level.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Gottsegen: Being patient is key. I used to stress myself out over not being as developed as some other kids when I was younger, and I worried about things that were out of my control, which affected me. I would just say don’t let things out of your control stop you from working towards your goals.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Gottsegen: My most memorable day in my baseball career has to be the day I committed. Throughout my baseball career there’s been so much emotion involved, and I have gone through so much with my family, so it was good to acknowledge all that we have accomplished.

PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Gottsegen: We will be solid this year. We just got a new coach and he’s doing a great job so I feel that we’ll make a pretty good run in 2024.
