Shawnee Mission NW Outfielders Shine on the Field and in the Classroom

Prep Baseball Report Kansas

As we’ve reported previously, Shawnee Mission Northwest HS has three talented class of 2015 outfielders in Casey Kelley, Nathan Reeder and Griffin Robinson.  Each has established themselves as a college baseball prospect on the field and has matched their work on the diamond with excellence in the classroom.

Kelley is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound fast-twitch, athletic right-handed pitcher and right-hand hitting outfielder whose tools grade out well across the board.  At the June 5th  Johnson County CC Mac-N-Seitz Cavaliers Baseball Club Showcase he was clocked throwing 88 from the outfield and on the mound.  We’ve also timed him on more than one occasion running sub 4.30 home-to-1B times – in games and at showcase events.  He was also named to the All-Sunflower team this spring.  His speed and strength combination on the baseball field is impressive but his work in the classroom is even better as he is currently dialing in a 4.89 GPA, 2 out of 403 class rank and recently recorded a remarkable 35 ACT.  Kelley plays for the Cavaliers Baseball Club out of Overland Park, Kansas in the fall and summer.

Reeder is a strong 5-foot-10, 180-pound left-hand hitting outfielder.  He runs a sub 4.30 home-to-1B from the left side and is a solid defender in the outfield that runs good routes, makes strong, accurate throws however his hit tool stands out above all – when we’ve seen him he has shown a mature middle-oppo approach with bat speed which he converted into a 6A All-State performance this spring facing some of the top high school pitching in the state playing in the Sunflower League.  In addition, Reeder is currently sitting at a 4.50 GPA with a 29 ACT.  He plays for the Midwest Black Sox organization out of the Kansas City area in the fall and summer.

Robinson is an athletic, 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  He’s one of the more physically impressive high school baseball players you will see and definitely looks the part of a major college outfielder.  When we saw him this spring he was playing centerfield, which when considering he’s on the same team as Kelley and Reeder, is saying something. He also hit in the three-hole, another positive indicator.  He’s an easy, efficient runner who glides under balls in the outfield well and showed an accurate arm.  At the plate, he showed bat speed and juice – his power projects the most out of the talented trio of outfielders for Northwest.  Like his counterparts, Robinson’s talents also extend into the classroom as he is currently riding a 4.59 GPA and 28 ACT.  Robinson plays for the KC Barnstormers organization and will be playing in the 17U WWBA tournament in Atlanta this next week.
