After a flurry of summer events, the time has come to update the Kentucky Class of 2024 rankings. This is a class that caught the attention of many at the PBR Future Games with five players who have committed since the conclusion of the event and many others who have offers on the table. It’s not only a talented class at the top, but it also offers depth and has seen 16 players in total commit to Division One schools to date.

Here is an in-depth look at the Top Five.

spurrierAfter a dominant spring and summer, RHP Zakery Spurrier climbs through the top 10 to the head of the class. It’s easy to project Spurrier as a workhorse with his 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame when he gets to campus at Kentucky. Already up to 93 mph with ride and run on a lower spin fastball, Spurrier creates a downhill plane through the zone, and showcases an advanced ability to pound the zone with the pitch. He mixes in a power 78-80 breaking ball with more curveball shape presently that he’s shown consistent feel for.

gregorRHP Jake Gregor, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound Louisville commit, checks in at No. 3. Gregor’s velocity was down a tick each time we saw him in the spring, but there are reports that he was back into the low 90’s this summer, which is where we saw him in a bullen back in February where he sat 90-93. Gregor routinely pounds the zone with a heavy, lower-spin fastball with a mid-70’s curveball and a very effective low 80’s changeup he can throw for strikes on any count.

schweitzRHP/SS Jake Schweitzer, a Louisville commit, occupies the No. 4 spot. Schweitzer committed to Louisville following the PBR Future Games and features big two-way ability. He has big power in the bat to go along with advanced defensive actions at SS with plenty of arm to stay there. On the mound he features a fastball that currently touches the low 90’s and a high-spin slider that produces a lot of swing and miss. Schweitzer’s velocity continues to tick up, and it’s easy to dream on the athleticism and quick arm he displays on the mound.

vhFollowing a dominant outing at the Future Games, RHP Carson Van Haaren makes a big climb to the No. 5 spot. Van Haaren features a high-spin (2500’s) 88-91 mph fastball coupled with a sharp 80-82 mph slider (2700’s) that produced a number of swing and misses in his two innings of work. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound righty committed to Eastern Kentucky shortly after the event among receiving significant Power 5 interest.
