Top Prospect Games: Preview Story

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Lafayette, LA - On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the PBR Louisiana staff will travel to the University of Louisiana, to host our annual Top Prospect Games.  Over the last couple of years, this invite-only event has become our marquee event of the summer, boasting close to 100 of the state's best and brightest prospects across the 2024-2026 classes.

EVENT HISTORY

Last summer's Top Prospect Games was certainly a treat for our staff and the college coaches that were in attendance, as a total of 31 players announced their college commitment some time after the event.  In addition, the event also served as a major identifier for our Future Games team last summer with 10 players earning invites after last year's Top Prospect Games.  2024 OF Brooks Wright (Catholic BR HS) announced his presence at last year's event by posting a 6.49 laser-timed 60, while also showcasing a smooth left-handed stroke that produced a max exit velocity of 96.5 mph.  2024 RHP Aidan Grab (Mandeville HS) also caught eyes at the event by showing a true 3 pitch mix for strikes for strikes, in any count, headlined by a mid-upper 80's FB.

2023 ROSTER

There's a handful of players headed to Lafayette on Tuesday who we've seen before and are excited to get an up-to-date look at, as well as a couple of new faces.  Let's check out a couple of those players below.

Uncommitted 2024 Prospects

+ 2024 RHP/OF Cole Connor (University Lab HS)

Athletic and lean with room to fill out at 6'1" 175 lbs.  The uncommitted two-way prospect has performed at each of our events over the last 12-18 months, so we're excited to get another look at him on Tuesday.  Connor has been clocked as low as a 6.74 in the 60 in the past and has showed a really good arm from the OF, up to 92 mph.  On the mound, it's a clean and repeatable arm stroke with a mid-upper 80's FB to go along with feel for both a SL and CH.

+ 2024 MIF Blayne McFerren (Calvary Baptist HS)

The former Jr. Future Gamer has made steady jumps over the last couple of years, and in our last look at the uncommitted infielder, he had made some noticeable physical gains, as he's begun to fill out his 5'10" frame.  McFerren had a jam up junior campaign for the Cavaliers, finishing with a .444 AVG to go along with 9 2B, 4 3B, and 21 RBI.  He's a scrappy player with a high baseball IQ, who can play any of the three infield positions defensively, and is a good uncommitted 2024 infielder for programs to take a close look at.

+2024 RHP Cole Corbello (Iowa HS)

Physical 6'3" 205 lbs. frame; Corbello was a standout performer for Iowa this past spring, on route to helping the Yellow Jackets win the Non-Select DII state title over Lakeshore.  He collected several hits during the state tournament, but was really impressive in left field during the title game.  Corbello gunned down a would be Lakeshore runner at home on a fly ball to left field, showing off big time arm strength and accuracy.  On Tuesday, we'll get to see Corbello toe the rubber and we're interested to see him do so, as we've heard that he can run his FB into the upper-80's.

+2024 LHP Landon Fontenot (Calvary Baptist HS)

Fontenot has been a steady performer for the Cavaliers and enjoyed a successful junior campaign, as he went 5-3 with a 1.15 ERA, and 78 K's over 61 IP.  The southpaw works quick on the mound and releases the ball from a 3/4-low 3/4 with a mid-80's FB to go along with aptitude and feel for spin.  He's an uncommitted strike throwing left-hander that will definitely make a college program happy.

Uncommitted 2025 Prospects

+2025 RHP Drew Ferguson (West Monroe HS)

All the former Future Gamer has done throughout his two years at West Monroe is win, as he's totaled 19 wins so far in his young career.  The uncommitted right-hander saved one of his best performances for the state title game, in which he unfortunately earned a no-decision against eventual state champion Barbe.  Ferguson's FB velocity ticked up a bit in the first couple of innings against the Bucs, getting up to 84-85 mph, before settling in at mostly 81-83 mph.  We're excited to see him again on Tuesday afternoon against some really good hitters from across the state

+2025 MIF Brock Davis (Live Oak HS)

Athletic 5'10" 160 lbs. frame; Davis has been a familiar name across the state, as the Eagles starting shortstop his first two years on campus.  At last year's Top Prospect Games, he showed a definite increase in strength, while recording a personal best 90 mph max exit velocity.  Davis is a sure-handed and confident defender with soft hands and athletic actions as well.  We look for him to have another good showing on Tuesday.

+2025 MIF Josh Lim (Dunham HS)

Lim is another former Jr. Future Gamer who we've had the opportunity to follow over the last couple of years, and are we're excited to get to see him again on Tuesday.  His speed is one of his best tools, as he most recently recorded a sub 6.50 60 time at the Knights Knation opening weekend two weeks ago.  A switch-hitter, the Dunham product has a really simple and repeatable swing from both sides of the plate with a line drive approach.  Lim is a dynamic player, who brings a lot of things to the table to help teams win games.

+2025 MIF Brock Laird (Natchitoches Central HS)

Athletic 5'10" 170 lbs. with lower-half strength; Laird is a guy who continues to trend up every time that we see him.  He played second base this past spring with senior Alex Dupuy (LSU-Eunice signee) at shortstop, and he'll likely fill Dupuy's void next year.  At the plate, Laird works from a wider base with minimal movements throughout his load, which allows him to deliver a direct path to the ball that has produced 90 mph exit velocities in past looks.  The Natchitoches Central product is another talented uncommitted middle infielder that should be monitored closely this summer.

+2025 RHP Thomas Allen (Benton HS)

Long and lean 6'1" 170 lbs. frame with room to continue to fill out.  The Benton HS product showed well at our State Games this past fall, which carried over to his sophomore season, as he earned All-District honors for the Tigers.  The FB works in the 83-86 mph range and is a true 4-seamer with some life through the zone.  He's also flashed a developing CB and SL, while showing confidence to land a firmer 80-81 mph CH for strikes to both RHH and LHH.

Uncommitted 2026 Prospects

+2026 MIF Myles Ledoux (Barbe HS)

The two-time former Jr. Future Gamer was arguably one of the more impressive hitters at last year's Jr. Future Games, as he collected 7 hits in 9 at-bats.  Ledoux missed the majority of this past spring due to a football injury, but is back healthy again, and we're excited to see him on Tuesday.  His left-handed swing is super simple with little head movement, a flat path to contact, and level extension.  Ledoux has consistently shown high level bat to ball skills, regardless of pitch location, in our looks, and also does a solid job defending up the middle.

+2026 OF Seth DeGeorge (Parkview Baptist HS)

Athletic 5'11" 175 lbs. frame; DeGeorge was a guy who we saw hit in the two-hole as a freshman for the Eagles this past spring and he looked the part of an impact top of the order offensive prospect.  On that particular night, we saw DeGeorge face off against one of the toughest arms in Louisiana's '25 class in RHP Sawyer Pruitt (Live Oak HS), and he ended up collecting two singles on the night.  He also impressed with his speed, as we clocked him in at a 4.25 down the line on a ground ball in the 6 hole.
