Commitment Q&A: 2025 William Patrick

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

2025 OF William Patrick officially announced his commitment to the defending National Chamion Louisiana State University Tigers on October 25, 2023.  The St. Frederick product was a member of our Future Games team in the summer of 2022, and unfortunately came down with an illness during the event, which prevented him from staying all the way until the last game.  He more than made up for it this past summer, as he came back to the Future Games laser-focused to prove that he was one of the top recruits in the country.  Patrick accomplished his mission, as he finished the 2023 Future Games going 3-4 at the plate with a HR, 3B, 5 RBI, 3 SB, and 4 BB.  On top of his in-game performance, he also posted some eye-opening metrics, as he ran a 6.42 laser-timed 60, threw 92 mph from the OF, and showed gap to gap power during batting practice with exit velocities up to 98 mph.  Below, we took some time to discuss his recent commitment to the Tigers, as well as his upcoming junior season.

1. Congratulations on your commitment to Louisiana State University!  What led to your decision to commit to the Tigers?

"I decided on LSU because it has been my dream school since I was little.  I grew up watching the Tigers.  I really looked up to Alex Bergman a lot when I was younger.  It's only about a three hour drive and the coaching staff made me feel loved, and I feel like they will help me be a better player and person"

2. Is there anyone in particular that you'd like to thank for helping you get to this point in your career?

"I'd like to thank God, my mom, my sister, Ben Sheets, Alex Armand, Jamie Johnson, and mostly my dad, Tony Patrick, for always believing in me through the ups and downs.  From playing in the back yard to making me do pull-ups on the trees and shaping me into the man that I am today.  My dad would work night shifts and I would stay up and go hit with him from 12 AM-2 AM."

3. You are a two-time member of our Future Games team.  What did you think about the experience?

"The experience was very eye-opening the first that I went.  I had never seen that many college scouts before.  The second time that I went, I was really excited and looking forward to getting more exposure and representing Louisiana."

4. What advice would you give to young, aspiring baseball players, as they enter high school and the recruiting process begins for them?

"Don't get overwhelmed and take it one step at a time.  At the end of the day, baseball is just a game.  You need to get out there and have fun.  Stay true to yourself, work hard, and everything will work out the way it's supposed to."

5. For LSU fans, who may not be familiar with you, how would you describe yourself as a player?

"A home grown versatile athlete, who is gritty and willing to do anything that it takes to win."

6. Are there any areas of your game that you've been focusing on over the off-season?

"I've been trying to get bigger and gain more weight.  I've been focusing on gaining more arm strength and more power."

7. What can high school baseball fans expect out of St. Frederick this year?  Give us a preview of what the Warriors will be like this spring.

"We have a really great group of guys who are all hard workers, and we have a head coach that loves us.  We have a good group of seniors, who are great leaders.  We expect to have a really good season this year."
