MS High School Team Preview: North Panola Cougars

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Magnolia State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each MHSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Strengths: Senior Leadership. Strong senior class of seven players.

  • MIF/RHP Denard Presley

Team Outlook:

North Panola returns 4 positional starters and 3 pitchers from a squad that finished 9-11 last spring with a first round match up in the state playoffs with 3A power Booneville. Head Coach Collin Giles is looking to senior leadership as the main ingredient needed for his Cougars to advance further in the state playoffs in 2023. 

Top returners for North Panola include seniors Daries Bramlett (INF/RHP), Tray Hayes (OF), Bryon Keys (OF/DH), Deshawn Dugger (1B/RHP), along with juniors Markendrick Bramlett (C/RHP) and Zykedrius Lamar. The Bramlett brothers look to be a solid battery with Daries on the bump and “Chunky” behind the plate. 

Other players Coach Giles expects to produce will be senior Jaylon Johnson (OF/LHP) and Kevin Cook (OF/2B) along with underclassmen James Carr (3B/RHP) and Denard Presley (MI/RHP). 

North Panola begins play this week and will battle in district with Byhalia, Rosa Fort, Holly Springs, and last year’s champions, Independence.
