The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2024 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 5

Konnor Griffin OF / RHP / Jackson Prep, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 3 / POS: 1 The Jackson Prep star went 7 for 9 on the week with a double, home run, and 2 RBI's. He also picked up 5 more stolen bases to bring his total for the year to 51! The LSU recruit was equally impressive on the mound throwing 6 innings, allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, with 1 strikeouts.

Aiden Alford 2B / Lake, MS / 2024 The senior had a solid week going 5 for 7 with 2 home runs and 7 runs batted in for the Hornets.

Noah Canten C / ALCORN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 Canten was big for the Bears last week as he collected 8 hits in 10 at bats including a double and 2 runs batted in.

Walker Wixon C / 3B / Lake Cormorant, MS / 2025 The junior has been a big run producer for the 10-1 Gators and kept it up last week going 6 for 12 with 3 doubles.

Jack Jordan SS / 3B / Ocean Springs, MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 40 / POS: 8 The uncommitted 2025 was impressive in his outing versus #2 aces on Prep as he shut the Patriots out with a 7 inning gem, scattering 5 hit and striking out 9. Jordan is now 2-1 on the season with a 1.17 ERA.

Derrin Randle / LAKE CORMORANT HIGH, MS / 2025 Randle had a good week on the mound as the junior threw 8 strong innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, while striking out 8 for the Gators.

Brayden Smith RHP / BELMONT, MS / 2025 Smith earned our Player of the Week after a 9 for 13 performance including an outstanding 10 runs scored on the week for the Cardinals.

Jack Ketchum RHP / 1B / Heritage Academy, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 12 / POS: 5 The Alabama recruit earned our Pitcher of the Week by tossing a 7 inning shutout, allowing 2 hits, while striking out 15 hitters. Ketchum is now 3-1 with a 0.81 ERA on the season.

Houston Green SS / RHP / Center Hill , MS / 2024 Green was another dual producer last week as the Itawamba CC recruit hit .400 on the week with a home run and 5 RBI's. He also was big for the Mustangs on the mound as he tossed 7 solid innings, allowing 2 runs, while striking out 6.

Jackson Hood SS / C / Germantown, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 25 / POS: 5 The Pearl River recruit showed his dual threat ability last week going 5 for 13 at the plate with 4 doubles and an rbi. He then toed the rubber for 7 innings, allowing 1 run, with 9 strikeouts.
