Bigger Than Baseball Scout Day: Quick Hitters

On Friday September 9th PBR of South Carolina was on hand at Field Day Park for a scout day with the Bigger Than Baseball event participants. The scout day featured players from the 2023-2027 grad classes.

The evening started with catchers going through a defensive evaluation then pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting data analytics. After the bullpens position players ran a laser timed 60 followed by BP on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After BP outfielders and infielders went through a defensive evaluation.

Quick Hitters

 

Killion Bennett, RHP/OF, 2024

5-11 185 pound athletic frame with present strength and room to add on.  With the bat showed a flat stroke through the zone with a good line drive approach while using the whole field, with a max exit velo of 92 mph.  On the mound showed a controlled slower paced delivery with good direction down the mound.  Throwing from a high ¾ slot with a max velo of 82.2 mph

Alex Blanchette, SS/RHP, 2025

5-9 137 pound lean frame.  Left handed hitter with a good loose fluid swing.  Flat swing through the middle of the field with a good line drive approach.  Defensively showed smooth clean defensive actions with good hands and good footwork.  Good short arm action with good carry and accuracy on throws.  On the mound showed good clean simple mechanics with a clean arm swing throwing from a ¾ arm slot and feel for spinning a curveball.  

Benjamin Chuttey, RHP/OF, 2025

5-11 145 pound lean frame with room to grow.  Controlled tempo in delivery with a high leg lift while finishing off to the 1B side of the mound.  Throws from a high ¾ slot while running his FB up to 81.4 mph and an avg spin at 1833 rpm.  Good feel for his CB and CH while showing the ability to throw both for strikes. CH has good sink and fade down in the zone.

Michael Doan, INF/RHP, 2025

6-1 150 pound athletic lean frame with room to add on.  Flag swings through the zone with a high finish.  Showed a line drive approach while staying in the middle of the field.  Defensively while battling a bit of some arm soreness and didn't make any throws on the night but showed active footwork while fielding the ball out in front. 

John Dober, INF/RHP, 2024

6-4 175 pounds with a long lean projectable frame.  Tall upright stance with a small leg lift and flat path through the ball.  A good line drive approach while using the middle of the field with a mx exit velo of 87.4 mph.  Showing good athleticism while showing the ability to play all of the field and good hands and arm strength across the field.  On the mound had a high leg lift and low ¾ slot with a whippy arm action.  Ran his fastball up 79.8 mph with feel for a CB and a CH.

Daniel Durham, C, 2024

5-9 165 pound frame.  An athletic stance with good rhythm in hands.  Sprayed line drives around the field with good extension out front in swing.  Did a good job of working above and through the ball with a max exit velo of 88.6 mph.  Behind the plate showed off some good working and a clean exchange while making accurate throws down to 2B.

Zechariah Haney, C, 2025

6-1 195 pound strong physical frame.  Left handed hitter with a simple setup and strength in his hands.  A short swing while staying through the ball with a good line drive approach and a max exit velo of 91.9 mph.  Behind the plate shows good exchange and arm strength with accuracy on his throws.    

Andres Lopez, INF, 2025

5-10 155 pound lean athletic frame.  Hits from a narrow upright stance with a slow controlled load.  Consistent contact in BP with a line drive approach while using the whole field with a max exit velo of 86.4 mph.  Smooth clean actions in the field with good active footwork.  Shows good hands while fielding the ball out front.  Shows the ability to throw from different arm slots with good arm strength and accuracy across the diamond.  

Cooper Mitchell, C, 2025

5-11 135 pound frame.  Hits from a wider balanced base with a simple setup.  Use a small leg lift and stride to balance while staying above the ball with a good line drive approach and a big finish out front.  Shows good flexibility behind the plate with good footwork and exchange and accurate throws to 2B.

Kieran Noel, INF, 2026

5-10 135 pound frame.  Hitting from a tall narrow stance while falling forward to his hitting position.  Working above shows a ground ball/line drive approach whale staying in the middle of the field.  Defensively shows active footwork while fielding the ball out-front.  

Quincy Richardson, 1B, 2026

6-0 210 pound large frame with present strength and room to add on.  Hits from a balanced simple setup with short flat swing with good extension out front.  Showed a good line drive approach with a max exit velo of 89.1 mph while staying in the middle of the field.  Big power potential as this youngster continues to grow and mature.

Mitchell Thomas, INF, 2026

6-3 163 pound lean projectable frame.  Tall upright stance with a small leg lift and stride.  Line drive ground ball approach while staying in the middle of the field with a max exit velo of 85.6 mph.
