October 24th 3-Way Scout Day

On Saturday, October 24th the CSB Spikes, Legacy 2022's, and Team 24 22's converged on Anderson University to compete in a 3-Way PBR Scout Day. Staying consistent with the premium product provided by PBR, players completed a pro style workout with a laser timed 60 yard dash, defensive evaluation, offensive on field BP, and simulated game play. To add even more value to the players the Trackman and Blast Motion technology was on hand to help provide players with extensive data available to them at the click of a mouse.

Here are some guys from each team that jumped out to our team of scouts during the event.

CSB Spikes

Jarren Metcalf (SS/2B, Chapman, 2023) - Uber athletic at the SS position. Ranged up the middle as well as to his backhand side to make every play he was tested with during his two games. Was also white hot at the plate showing a natural line drive path, feel for the barrel, and consistent timing. A must see 2023 MIF.

Ian Squires (3B/1B, Spartanburg, 2023) - XL frame with tons of projection. Loose rhythm at the plate generated plenty of POP to carry the gaps in BP. Carried over the BP power to his in game ABs showing his ability to be on time and find the barrel. Doubled twice in game hitting two balls to LF that would have been no-doubters had we not been playing at the pitcher friendly confines of Anderson University.

Wilson Wages (OF, Clinton, 2023) -  Lean strength and projectable build. Played well in CF ranging into the gaps to track balls and make plays. Steeper path in BP, filled his rounds with tons of barrels and low line drives. Showed feel for hitting in his in-game ABs. Simple approach, wants to use his tools. Current athletic ability and instincts give him a high ceiling.

Johann Rodriguez (C, Chapman, 2023) - High end young catching prospect. Was locked in behind the plate for most of the day. 2.05 pop time with clean/quick exchanges. Good flexibility and athletic block/recover. Line drive approach, wants to use the middle of the field. Lined a sharp single to CF during his live ABs.

Legacy 2022's

Braden Small (SS/C, Indian Land, 2022) - Proportional build with moderate projection remaining. Athletic actions at the SS position. Could play 3B or 2B if needed. Found a ton of barrels all day turning in completive ABs with a good understanding of the strike zone and feel to hit.

Ethan Wilson (SS/RHP, South Pointe, 2022) - Two-way prospect showed well on the mound running the FB up to 86. Sports a slender frame that will fill out as he matures. Sneaky athletic actions produce noticeable loud contact at the plate. Lined a ball off the top of the wall in LCF for a 2B.

Jake McCoy (LHP, Catawba Ridge, 2023) - One of the top prospects on display. LHP with a FB/CB mix. CB shows more slurvy tendencies at present but flashes some big time late bite and swing and miss potential. Worked from a tough H3Q slot that gives him some deception. Loose/free arm action suggest the 83 mph velo will only continue to rise.

Jake McCoy (LHP, Catawba Ridge, 2022)

Will Hanson (C/RHP, Charlotte Catholic, 2022) - Projectable 5-11, 160lb frame will easily support additional development. High waist. Quick arm stood out on the mound. Consistently worked the lower half of the zone, missed down for stretches but was able to overcome. FB/CH compliment with feel. Anticipate a velo jump. Squared up the ball during BP, balanced approach. Hard Hit Ball in game.

Will Hanson (RHP/INF, Charlotte Christian, 2022)

Team 24 22's

Ron Robinson (RHP/3B, Lancaster, 2022) - Strong mature frame with square shoulders and muscular build. Laced a ball down the 3B line for a double, showed the ability to play multiple positions and also saw time on the mound.

Eli Vickers (C, Legion Collegiate, 2023) - Solid catching prospect showed off an accurate arm during the workouts putting his throws right on the bag. Good bend in the hips behind the plate with confident hands. Our scouts really liked the approach at the plate, did not expand the zone and attacked pitches when he found himself in advantage counts.

Logan McAllister (3B, Clover, 2022) - Under the radar player needs to see a significant uptick in his following. Athletic actions at 3B made several rangy plays. Solid all around hitter with a natural approach. Uses the whole field with the ability to stand on one and drive the gap. Consistent barrels all day long with multiple hits and hard contact. Lean frame has matured nicely since our 2019 scout day.

Justin Skinnell (RHP, Clover, 2022) - Uber projectable RHP that worked as a two-way player seeing time behind the plate as well as on the mound. Turned in one of the most impressive performances on the day running the FB up to 86 with solid numbers via Trackman. Was in attack mode early and often challenging with the FB. Moderate effort in the devilry. OFP makes him a must see for scouts in the near future.
