Region Preview: Class AA - Region IV

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

With the start of the high school season less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region.

                 Class AA - Region IV

Preseason Favorites

Herbert Hoover (33-5) / Sissonville (13-21)

Hoover is a prohibitive favorite to make a return to Charleston a year removed from a Class AA state title. The Huskies will have to replace standout OF/LHP Corey Bird who is now at Marshall University, but have plenty of fire power returning to make them the clear choice to repeat in Region IV.

If a team is going to unseat Hoover this year as region champion, Sissonville has the best chance. The Indians will have to replace Zach Null (.489, 5-5, 2.62 ERA), but return nearly everyone else on their roster.

In the Hunt

Poca (24-9) Player of the Year

Tristan Fields, RHP/3B, Herbert Hoover (Class of 2014)

Fields is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound unsigned senior ranked No. 5 in WV and No. 276 in the PBR combined Class of 2014 rankings. He hit .409 with six home runs and 42 RBI as a junior. He also went 7-1 with a 2.24 ERA and 74 strikeouts on the mound. Fields was the starting pitcher for Hoover in the state semifinals and finals in 2013.
