Illinois 2017 Rankings Updated

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

Now that the 2016 rankings have been dissected and revised we move on to the 2017 class. There have been no seismic shifts to the Top 10 since the PBR Future Games. The biggest changes are the two new RHP’s who now find themselves in the Top 10.

Still uncommitted, 6-foot-7 RHP Austin Marozas (Plainfield South) was visible all fall and turned heads with his upper 80’s fastball, touching 90 mph with heavy, hard sink. Also, possesses two above-average off-speed offerings that helped him solidify the No. 5 spot in IL. Long and lean RHP Mark DiLuia (Marian Catholic) recently committed to Maryland, keeps getting better every time we see him and has a ton of upside. DiLuia features a loose and whippy arm action from a ¾ slot, and sits an easy 86-88 mph with loads of pitch-ability and a wipeout slider. He now sits at No. 8 in Illinois.

The new rankings have expanded from 100 to 125 to reflect all of the new prospects that have made their way into the fold this fall. The Class of 2017 Showcase that took place in October was loaded with talent at every position and many of the participants moved up or jumped into the rankings for the first time.

One of those who jumped into the rankings was 6-foot-3, 190-pound RHP Ken Brokop (Bradley-Bourbonnais) who sat 86-87 mph, touching 89 with his fastball at the Class of 2017 Showcase and now sits in the Top 25.

Keep an eye out the rest of this week for further breakdowns of the updated 2017 rankings as we will check out several of the top new prospects on the list and some of the biggest risers. Also, 2017 state ranking updates are taking place around our coverage area and overall rankings will be updated in the near future. Stay tuned the next couple of weeks to find out how Illinois fits into the overall picture.
