Future/Junior Future Games Trials Scout Blog: Pitcher Only's

Seven pitcher only's showed up to showcase their arms on them mound in Birmingham on Tuesday, June 16. A few guys put up some impressive velocity numbers and there was some definite pitchability in the group. In all, six 2022 grads and one 2023 grad jumped on the mound as a pitcher only. 

Let's take a look at those guys:

Austin Morris: RHP/OF, (2022) Mortimer Jordan, AL. 6-foot-4, 182-pound. Projectable on the mound, where he showed some arm speed, he had a side arm angle with a quick arm action. Used some effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 85-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph. Curveball (70-71 mph), changeup (65-66 mph). The fastball seemed to really take off late. 

Connor Ford: RHP/3B, (2022) Hazel Green, AL. 6-foot-2, 165-pound. Projectable on the mound, has a quick arm action with good arm speed. Uses easy effort in his delivery. Has a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-83 mph with a max of 84 mph. Curveball (72-73 mph), changeup (76-77 mph). Has shown some definite increase in the velocity since we last saw him. 

JT McArdle: RHP/OF, (2022) Opelika, AL. 6-foot-4, 215-pound mature frame. Projectable on the mound, has quick arm speed. Showed some effort in his delivery. Sat with his fastball at 82-83 mph and topped out at 84 mph. Changeup (74-75 mph), slider (72-73 mph). Physical body that creates nice down action on the fastball and shows the ability to locate to the glove side very well. 

Branson Honea: RHP/3B, (2023) Boaz, AL. 5-foot-11, 173-pound. Fluid on the mound, has above average arm speed. Used easy effort in his delivery. Has athletic balance point. Threw his fastball 80-81 mph with a max of 82 mph. Curveball (73-74 mph). Compact delivery and clean mechanics, a '23 to follow. 

Brodey Lentz: LHP/OF, (2022) Lauderdale County, AL. 6-foot, 160-pound lanky frame. Projectable on the mound, showed good arm speed and a ¾ arm angle. Used easy effort in his delivery. Threw his fastball 79-80 mph with a max of 81 mph. Curveball (68-69 mph), changeup (66-67 mph). Big time pitchability in the southpaw who shows feel for all pitches. Command all quardrants of the zone. 

Richard Sisneros: LHP/OF, (2022) Calera, AL. 5-foot-6, 130-pound. On the mound, up-temp type pitcher who shows some effort. Consistent balance point. Lands soft. Changeup (61-62 mph).Sat with his fastball at 69-71 mph and topped out at 73 mph; has consistent command and sinking action. curveball (56-60) showed decent accuracy. 

Andrew Urnis: LHP/OF, (2022) Marbury, AL. 6-foot-1, 180-pound. Above average on the mound, had a quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Feel type pitcher who shows some effort. a clean finish. Sat with his fastball at 66-67 mph with a max of 68 mph. Curveball (60-61 mph) showing some late depth able to locate down in the zone.
