Top Profiles of 2020: No. 7 Landon Russell

Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

We continue our countdown of the Top Profiles of 2020 with '22 SS/RHP Landon Russell (Russell County) who comes in at No. 7. Russell is the #1 ranked player in the Alabama 2022 class and is also ranked #118 nationally across the country. Russell is an Auburn commitment.

The 6-0 175 pound junior is a true two way talent as he shows several "plus" skills in his game. The quick twitch athlete shows plenty of speed speed as he has been as low as 6.71 in the 60 while also throwing 90 mph across the diamond from SS. Russell has power to all fields as evidenced by his 90 mph exit velocity at the plate. If that isn't enough, the RHP can also jump on the mound and shows a solid three pitch arsenal with complimentary secondary stuff to his upper 80's fastball that also bumps 90 mph on occasion. As you can see, there is a lot to like with Landon Russell.

Scouting Report

4/08/20

Russell is a physical player with quick-twitch and athletic actions all over the field at 6 feet, 175 pounds. He can really pick it in the dirt, has plenty of arm strength, throwing 90 across the diamond, and is a plus runner with a 6.71 60. At the plate, he has easy juice from a tilted swing path and creates backspin off the barrel with a 97 mph exit velocity off a tee. If that isn’t enough, he jumps on the mound and shows a solid arsenal of secondary pitches to complement his 85-88 fastball, which can bump 89.
