Underclass Games: Infielders


PBR Alabama Staff

The Alabama Underclass Games were held on Tuesday, June 22nd at Rudy Abbott Field at Jacksonville State University. Players were put through a positional workout in the morning and then each player played in one of the two games that followed in the afternoon. Today, we go back and give individual scouting reports on all the infielders in attendance. Several other position players also pitched an inning in gameplay and their pitching notes will be included in their positional analysis. 

Wrapping up our post-event coverage, let's go back and take a look at the infielders from Tuesday's event.

 

InFIELDERS

Thomas Aaron, SS/OF, (2024) Auburn, AL
6-foot-1, 180-pound. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 83 mph. Setup is liked of a controlled load and a balanced athletic stance. Level loose swing plane. Found multiple barrels in his rounds. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 82 mph; had smooth footwork, and consistent hands. Showed a high ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.56.

Tucker Arrington, 1B/3B, (2024) Thompson, AL
6-foot, 195-pound. During batting practice, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 87 mph. Started in an active balanced stance and used a quick stride. Bat speed is above average, has a flat swing plane and a front foot finish. Found lots of barrels in his round. Up the middle approach. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 74 mph; shows firm hands. Showed a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a time of 7.86 in the 60-yard dash.

Bo Bachtel, 3B/SS, (2024) Gardendale, AL
5-foot-10, 202-pound. At the plate, Bachtel had a max exit velocity of 83 mph. Started in a wide balanced stance with a short stride. An inside-out swing plane. In his round he found some barrels. Opposite field approach. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 81 mph; had developing footwork, and a natural exchange. Showed a ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a 60 time of 7.97 at the event. On the mound, uses an moderate arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Slow-tempo type pitcher. Shows a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 77-79 mph and topped out at 80 mph; Has running action. Shows slurvey action on his sharp curveball (65-66).

Drey Barrett, SS/3B, (2024) Holtville, AL
6-foot-2, 175-pound. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 90 mph. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a quick load, then uses a short stride. Had efficient bat speed and an uphill swing plane. He barreled up some balls. Aggressive approach. In the infield, his best throw was registered at 82 mph; has athletic feet, and soft hands. Had consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot. Recorded a time of 7.27 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, has a high ¾ arm angle and good arm speed. Used easy effort in his delivery. Has an athletic balance point. Displayed a clean finish Sat with his fastball at 77-80 mph. Had running action. Shows a 10/4 curveball (68-69) with slurvey action.

Drew Bodnar, 1B/3B, (2024) Mountain Brook, AL
6-foot-2, 215-pound physical frame. In the box, Bodnar's best exit velocity was 89 mph. Began in an open stance with a controlled load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed was above average, used an upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. During the round showed some loud contact. Pull side approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 76 mph; shows choppy footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 8.07.

Kyler Bradley, SS/3B, (2024) Gaylesville, AL
5-foot-11, 160-pound. At the plate, Bradley's best exit velocity was 79 mph. Had a quick stride. Bat speed was developing, and had an an inside-out swing plane. He barreled up some balls during the round. Opposite field approach. In the infield, his best throw was recorded at 65 mph; had developing hands, and average footwork. Showed some accuracy. Recorded a time of 7.41 in the 60-yard dash.

Payne Bryan, 3B/RHP, (2023) Springville, AL
5-foot-11, 181-pound mature frame. Above average at the plate, Bryan's 94 mph exit velocity ranks him 2nd at the event. During setup, had a controlled load then a leg kick. Bat speed was above average, had an uphill swing plane and a front foot finish. Created some loud contact during his round. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, his best throw was recorded at 79 mph; has rhythmic feet, and soft hands. Showed a high ¾ slot and decent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.08. On the mound, showed a high ¾ arm angle with above average arm speed. Showed some effort in his delivery. Strong balance point. Changeup (63-64 mph). Sat with his fastball at 77-78 mph with a max of 79 mph; has arm side command and running action. Threw a 11/5 curveball (64-68) with sweeping action.

Chase Cartron, 1B/LHP, (2024) Huntsville, AL
6-foot-4, 195-pound. During batting practice, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. Starts in a balanced wide stance then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed was above average, and had a flat swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact . Line drive approach. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 67 mph; has rhythmic footwork. Showed consistent accuracy to the base and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.99. On the mound, showed an over-the-top angle. Up-tempo type pitcher and shows some effort. Sat with his fastball at 79-81 mph with a max of 82 mph; had command around the zone. Throws a 1/7 curveball (64-67) with slurvey action.

Brendan Conner, SS/RHP, (2024) Corner, AL
5-foot-11, 185-pound physical frame. At the plate, Conner was ranked 3rd with an exit velocity of 93 mph.Had a balanced stance. Bat speed was quick, and displayed an uphill swing plane. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 85 mph; had smooth footwork, and sure hands. Had a quick arm action and consistent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a time of 7.69 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, uses a high ¾ arm angle and an quick arm action. Up-tempo type pitcher. Showed a strong balance point. Has a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-85 mph. has command in the zone. Shows late action on his sharp curveball (73-74). He shows sinking action on his changeup (80-81).

Jeb Crane, 2B/3B, (2024) Oxford, AL
6-foot, 165-pound. In the box, the left-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 87 mph. Setup included an athletic stance and a leg kick. Had an uphill swing plane, and his bat speed was efficient. Found lots of barrels in his rounds. Line drive approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 75 mph; has athletic feet, and sure hands. Had a quick arm action on his throws. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.49.

Brandt Cummings, SS/2B, (2024) Russellville, AL
5-foot-8, 155-pound. In the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 76 mph. Sets up in an athletic open stance then uses a quick stride. Bat speed is average and has a simple swing plane. He barreled up some balls. In the infield, his best throw was registered at 78 mph; had a clean exchange, and choppy footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.69.

James Graphos, SS/2B, (2024) Mountain Brook, AL
6-foot-1, 155-pound. Projectable during batting practice, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. Started in an open stance then used a controlled stride. Upward loose swing plane. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 74 mph; shows athletic footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were quick. Used a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.97.

Will Harwell, 3B/C, (2023) Lincoln County, TN
6-foot-2, 215-pound. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 90 mph. Sets up in a tall stance and uses a closed stride. Bat speed is average and exhibits an upward swing plane. Through his round he found some barrels. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 78 mph; had average footwork, and soft hands. Used a compact arm action and a high ¾ slot while showing decent accuracy to the bag. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.63. On the mound, throws from a high ¾ arm angle and has above average arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher. Showed a consistent balance point. Sat with his fastball at 78-80 mph; shows arm side control and running action. Shows a 10/4 curveball (65-70) with sweeping action.

Joshua Henson, SS/RHP, (2025) Buckhorn, AL
6-foot-1, 175-pound. During batting practice, Henson recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. Sets up in an open active stance with a leg kick. Bat speed is above average, displays an uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. In the round he found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. While in the infield, made throws up to 73 mph; shows average footwork, and a natural exchange. Showed a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.62. On the mound, has a high ¾ angle. Showed a consistent balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 71-73 mph. shows command around the zone. His curveball (59-61) had slurvey action.

Luke Holbrook, SS/RHP, (2025) Whitesburg Christian, AL
6-foot-1, 160-pound projectable frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. Sets up in a wide active stance with a big leg kick. Upward swing plane. He found some barrels during his rounds. Line drive approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 76 mph; shows consistent hands, average feet, and a clean fluid exchange. Had a ¾ slot with a loose arm action. Recorded a 60 time of 7.66 at the event. On the mound, has good arm speed and throws from an over-the-top arm angle. Shows some effort in his delivery. Athletic balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 78-80 mph and topped out at 81 mph; Showed running action. He shows slurvey action on his curveball (64-65). He shows fading action on his changeup (69-70).

Bryant Jones, 3B/RHP, (2025) Austin, AL
5-foot-10, 150-pound. At the plate, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 81 mph. Sets up in a wide crouched stance then uses a quick stride. Uphill swing plane. He found a couple of barrels in his round. Pull side approach. In the infield, his best throw was registered at 74 mph; shows developing footwork, and a natural exchange. Had decent accuracy. Recorded a 60 time of 7.8 at the event. On the mound, showed a high ¾ arm angle with some arm speed. Lands square. Changeup (68-69 mph). Produced a fastball that came in at 76-77 mph. has command around the zone. His 11/5 curveball (64-66) has slurvey action.

Mason Perrigo, SS/RHP, (2024) Vestavia, AL
6-foot-1, 180-pound. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 97 mph exit velocity ranks him 1st at the event. Sets up in a tall stance then uses a quick stride. Bat speed is explosive, shows an uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Had loud contact and found some barrels. Gap to gap approach. Showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 86 mph; had a clean exchange, and athletic footwork. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a quick arm action. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.9.

Rhett Persell, SS/RHP, (2026) Lincoln County, TN
5-foot-9, 145-pound. Projectable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 86 mph. Setup was comprised of an open tall stance and a leg kick. Has above average bat speed. He found multiple barrels during his rounds. Line drive approach. In the infield, his best throw was recorded at 74 mph; had soft hands, and rhythmic footwork. Showed consistent accuracy. Recorded a time of 7.53 in the 60-yard dash.

Bryce Persell, 1B/OF, (2024) Lincoln County, TN
6-foot-1, 165-pound. At the plate, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph. Started in a wide crouched stance and used a short stride. Has above average bat speed and simple swing plane. He showed some loud contact during the round. Line drive approach. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 74 mph; had rhythmic footwork, and sure hands. Had consistent accuracy to the bag and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.47.

Kannon Robertson, 2B/3B, (2024) Cleburne County, AL
6-foot, 165-pound. During batting practice, Robertson's best exit velocity was 86 mph. Started in a tall stance with a controlled load, then used a toe tap. Bat speed is quick, exhibits an upward swing plane and a front foot finish. Pull side approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 78 mph; had a clean exchange, and athletic footwork. Had a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a 60 time of 7.38 at the event.

Dominic Rosa, SS/C, (2024) Bob Jones, AL
5-foot-11, 125-pound lanky frame. During batting practice, Rosa clocked an exit velocity of 77 mph. Starts in a balanced stance then uses a short stride. Flat swing plane. Base hit approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 72 mph; had consistent hands, and rhythmic footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot and decent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.61.

Memphis Scott, 2B/RHP, (2025) Madison County, AL
6-foot, 135-pound. At the plate, Scott recorded an exit velocity of 80 mph. Sets up a wide balanced stance. Has some bat speed, upward swing plane and a back foot finish. Found some barrels during his rounds. Pull side approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 70 mph; showed developing footwork. Had decent accuracy. Recorded a time of 7.81 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, showed an short arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher. Threw his fastball 70-72 mph with a max of 73 mph; Showed running action. He threw a 10/4 curveball (63-64). His changeup (69-70) shows fading action.

Nicholas Sharp, 2B/SS, (2024) Madison County, AL
5-foot-9, 125-pound. In the box, Sharp had an exit velocity of 80 mph. Setup included an athletic stance and a small leg kick. Bat speed was developing, and showed an upward swing plane. He found a few barrels in his round. Base hit approach. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 74 mph; shows average footwork, and a clean exchange. Showed decent accuracy to the bag and a high ¾ slot. Recorded a time of 7.79 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, had a high ¾ arm angle and an compact arm action. Uses some effort in his delivery. Threw his fastball 73-75 mph; showed running action and consistent command. His curveball (61-63) has slurvey action. His changeup (67-69) has fading action.

Ryder Strickland, 1B/RHP, (2024) Oxford, AL
6-foot, 215-pound. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 90 mph. Started in an open active stance and had a leg kick. Bat speed was above average, and used an upward swing plane. Had some loud contact during the round. Pull side approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 77 mph; shows average footwork. Had an-over-the-top slot and decent accuracy to the base. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.55. On the mound, had an over-the-top arm angle with an compact arm action. Shows downhill shoulders. Sat with his fastball at 81-82 mph. has control around the zone. Throws a 11/5 curveball (72-73) that has late action.

Seth Walton, 2B/OF, (2024) Brooks, AL
5-foot-11, 155-pound athletic frame. Above average in the box, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 86 mph. Had an open athletic stance. Bat speed was efficient, and showed a rotational swing plane. He found lots of barrels through his rounds. Line drive approach. Above average while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 77 mph; had consistent footwork. Showed consistent accuracy. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.01. On the mound, had a compact arm action and an over-the-top arm angle with good arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher. Showed an athletic balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 72-74 mph; has sinking action and command in the zone. Has gradual action on his 11/5 curveball (61-63).

Lawson Williams, RHP/1B, (2024) Hartselle, AL
6-foot, 185-pound. During batting practice, the left-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 86 mph. Starts in a wide stance with a short stride. Has a level swing plane, quick bat speed and a back foot finish. Barreled up lots of balls throughout his round. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, has soft hands, and developing feet. Clocked a time of 7.97 in the 60-yard dash.
