Woodlawn's Coach Tommy Richardson Wins 500th Game

Woodlawn defeated Hermitage 15-0 on Tuesday April 25^th, 2017. Most of the time this would not be a significant victory as we have all come to expect Woodlawn, to take care of business vs most teams in their classification.

However this particular win is something to be recognized as Coach Tommy Richardson won his 500^th game. Coach Richardson, began coaching the Bears in 1994 after finishing his degree and playing career at Southern Arkansas University. Over his 23 years of service to Woodlawn High school he has amassed 500 wins and four State Championships, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2016.

The 2017 team looks like a team with a legitimate shot to win back to back state championships. They are 25-1 this spring with their lone loss was a 5-3 loss to 7A Springdale High School. This team is fundamentally sound. Winning games in dominating fashion. They have only allowed more than 2 runs in 5 contest this spring, their pitching staff earned run average is .77 on the season. Offensively they are hitting .374 as a team scoring 11.5 runs a game.

Coach Richardson has a pillar of the coaching community in the state of Arkansas over the past 20 years. I first met him as young recruiting coordinator at a startup junior college program. He worked tirelessly to promote his players and give them the opportunity to compete at the next level. I have had a chance to watch his teams play over the last decade and they all play with high energy, confidence and a sound fundamental base, which has led to their consistent success.
