Week One - Arizona Scout Blog

#11 Red Mountain 1 vs #5 SD O'Connor 4

Elijah Pak OF / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2023

After the Eagles had numerous innings of leaving runners on base early in the game, Elijah Pak stepped up in the big moment. With 2 outs in the inning and the bases loaded the Yavapai commit turned on one for a grand slam putting the Eagles up 4-1 going into the 6th. The 2023 Outfielder Pak has a compact build with a short direct path in the box. In the outfield he showed to have some sneaky speed with a good first step and accurate arm.

Joshua Butler RHP / RHP / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2023

Arizona State commit Josh Butler made the start for the Eagles on opening day and looked to be in near mid season form. The tall righty had a 3-pitch mix working. He was able to command his fastball on both sides of the plate sitting 88-90 with some arm side run. Although the slider had some inconsistencies in the zone there was some glimpses of upside, breaking good ones off at 77-78. The best off speed pitch proved to be his changeup, showing some late depth at 83-84 with 1650 spin. Butler went 6inn on the mound of 1 run baseball.

Hagen Wright OF / Red Mountain, AZ / 2025

Arizona State commit Hagen Wright is the type of player that turns heads when you see him on the field. Standing at 6-foot-5 215 pounds as a Sophomore, Wright's long levers in the box produce big time power for a 2025 grad. Wright put together a quality at bat on Mondays matchup between Red Mountain and Sandra Day O'Connor with an RBI base hit in the 5-6 hole. In the outfield Wright moves well for his size with a 90 mph arm.

Xavier Sanchez / Red Mountain, AZ / 2023

Uncommitted senior Xavier Sanchez had the big knock on the day for Red Mountain, Driving a ball to the right center field wall for a double. Sanchez showed an athletic stance in the box with good base in his light leg lift load. Path works direct to the ball with quality bat speed.

#22 Pinnacle 10 vs #3 Brophy 6

Juan Carlos Kalemera OF / RHP / Pinnacle, AZ / 2023

Uncommitted Prospect Juan Kalemera had a stand out game in yesterdays battle with #3 Brophy. Kalemera is a dual sport athlete with a physical presence in the box and showed off some impressive power to the pull side on a home run that nearly hit the building 50ft behind the left field fence at Pinnacle. Kalemera is off to a hot start hitting .437 with 2 doubles, a triple and a home run.

Samuel Round RHP / OF / Pinnacle, AZ / 2023

The winning pitcher for the Pinnacle Pioneers was Gonzaga commit Samuel Round. While Round didn't have his best stuff, in 5 innings he recorded 8ks with 4 er. Rounds fastball sat 88-90 T.91 with some good arm side action, however the separator is Rounds slider that sits 77-78 mph with 2700+ spin showing to be a true swing and miss pitch.

Willie Cornejo-Farmer 1B / 3B / Brophy College Prep, AZ / 2024

One of the top Uncommitted prospects in the 2024 class is first baseman Willie Farmer. Farmer was a stand out and Dicks Sporting Goods MVP in this past summers Future Games where the bat shinned. In yesterdays matchup with Pinnacle, Farmer looked to be right where he left off. Putting together a multi hit game with an RBI stand up double to the left center field gap. Farmer has a strong physical build with plenty more strength to come.

Gabe Velasquez-Mendoza SS / 2B / Pinnacle, AZ / 2025

Uncommitted switch hitting middle infielder and 2025 grad Gabe Mendoza showed promising tools in yesterdays matchup. Late in the game Mendoza put together a great at bat shooting an up and away fastball to left field for a single. Mendoza has a very simple compact swing with a quality contact tool. In the field he moves well side to side, along mature actions with the glove. The Arizona staff looks forward to following the 2025 grad this spring.

#1 Hamilton 10 vs #6 Liberty 1

Zach Wadas 1B / OF / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

Texas Christian Commit with a solid day at the plate going 2-4 with an RBI. While the bats didn't get going until late for Hamilton Wadas started it off with an RBI single early in the game. Wadas has a large presence in the box at 6-foot-4 200 pounds with big time pop in the bat from the left side. Wadas was a stand out at this past years Area Code games putting on a show in his BP rounds that lead into his game play.

Joshua Tiedemann 3B / RHP / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

The Texas Christian commit continues to be a dominate force in the Hamilton lineup going 2-3 on the day with a ground rule double to left field late in the game. Tiedemann has one of the cleanest swings in the state showing balance in the lower half and a quick flat path. In the field Tiedemann has a clean glove at the hot corner with above average range and accurate arm. Coming into close late in the game Tiedemann sat 89-91 for strikes.

Jeter Mauzey / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

The New Mexico State commit had the big swing of the day for the Huskies, hitting a moon shot over the left field wall for a 3 run home run. For his size Mauzey showed to have a short compact swing with good extension through the ball. Defensively Mauzey has good speed in the outfield with tracking ability and a quality arm. With added strength in his frame, we see Mauzey being a power threat moving forward at New Mexico State.

Carson Johnson RHP / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

Arizona Baseball commit had a great start on the mound for the Huskies on Thursday night. In 5 innings of work of scoreless baseball, Johnson aloud only 2 hits with 5ks. The righty showed a low effort fastball sitting 87-89 T.90, and a slider that he was able to land for strikes as well as get swing and miss. With the FB being Johnsons best pitch the Changeup has quality depth, however we feel that with quicker hand speed at release Johnson will likely get more swing and miss.

Gerardo Gonzalez 3B / RHP / Liberty , AZ / 2024

The top uncommitted Junior in the state of Arizona came into relief in the Liberty matchup with Hamilton. In 2 innings of work Gonzalez managed two strike out 4 on zero hits. Gonzalez has tall strong frame with tons of power in the lower half. His fastball sat 89-90, slider 72-73 and a changeup working 80-81.

#12 Desert Vista 4 vs Boulder Creek 0

Michael Caruso RHP / RHP / Desert Vista, AZ / 2023

San Diego State Commit had it rolling on Saturday morning with a complete game shutout. Caruso showed quality control with the FB on both sides of the plate sitting (87-88 T.89) at 2200 spin. The breaking ball showed to be a separator that gave Boulder Creek troubles, sitting (72-73) with 2500 spin. Caruso was a stand out at this past summers West Coast Games where his fastball sat. 90-91.

Grant Haas SS / 3B / Desert Vista, AZ / 2023

Central Arizona Commit Grant Haas put together some great at bats throughout the day, although he was only 1-3 with a double in the books. Early in the day Haas hit one on the screws to the right fielder but had nothing to show for it. In the field Haas has good range moving side to side, an above average arm across and a high level IQ.

Jayden Garrison OF / 3B / Desert Vista, AZ / 2025

Uncommitted sophomore Jayden Garrison has made a big impression on the Arizona staff since coming off a solid showing at this years Pre Season All State Games. Garrison was 1-3 at the plate with a shot to left center field for a double. Garrison has a wide stance with a light toe lift load and direct path the ball. Garrison has great actions in the outfield with good speed that translates to the bases.

Quinton Lorgeree LHP / 1B / Boulder Creek, AZ / 2023

Uncommitted first baseman had 2 of the 3 hits on the day for the Jaguars. One of them being a double to deep left center field. Lorgeree has a big leg kick from the left side, with a flat path through the zone. At first base Lorgeree has confidence in the glove with above average range.
