Fresno Easter Classic Player of the Tournament: 2020 TJ Nichols

2020 SS TJ Nichols - Oakmont

The Sac State commit impressed as a two-way player in front of multiple sets of eyes on each day. Nichols shows an athletic build on the large frame with length in his limbs. Showed excellent defensive skills in each game with range to both sides and into the OF and foul territory. Plays with a soft glove and excellent footwork with rhythm through the baseball showing off his above-average arm that can make all the throws needed. Compact, extra-base swing flashing projectable pop with the ability to control the barrel and get it through the zone quickly. Finished the week 7-for-13 with 3 2B’s. Showed off an athletic first step out of the box with plenty of speed to make plays in the field and on the bases. Came in to close out the final game with a loose, quick and clean arm working FB 88-93 MPH (lower velo in stretch) and two breaking balls; a SLD with tilt (77-78 MPH) and a CB with more traditional shape (74-76 MPH). Also showed a CHG at 82 MPH.  There were a lot of talented players during the tournament, but NIchols consistently stood out and impressed. Take a look at some video from the week below.
