With our eight and final 2024 Season Preview, we spotlight another Division II program as we take a look at Hana High School Dragons. Hana went winless in 2023 but with eight returning starters, the Dragons have their sights set on that first crucial win here in 2024. After dropping their season opener to last year's Division II runner-up, Seabury Hall, the veteran-led team received praise from the opposing team's coach for their offseason improvements and growth.

The 2024 Hana High School baseball program is led by Head Coach Creg Gumanas and below we'll break down everything you need to know about his team entering the new season.

High School: Hana High School
Coach: Creg Gumanas
HHSAA Classification: Division II
2023 Record: 0-10

Returning Strengths/Players: '25 P/1B/UTL Ka’aha Kalanikau-Akuna (Uncommitted) will be an upperclass player to watch this year for the Dragons and was their top producer in their season opener against Seabury Hall. Kalanikau-Akuna went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run. '24 C/RHP Kawika Helekahi (Uncommitted) is a senior who will also lead the way for Hana and should provide value both as a positional player and as an arm. '25 3B/RHP Laumana Helekahi-Matsuda (Uncommitted) will get the majority of work at third base this season and will be another uncommitted underclassman to keep tabs on in the Dragons program.

Top Newcomers: Nearly half the players (6 of 11 players) who will take the field for Hana are seniors, along with the large portion of them returning, but '27 P/OF/1B Ace Akiu (Uncommitted) will be a new face to follow in the program as he takes the field for the first time in his high school career. With nearly half the team graduating in just a couple months, Akiu should be a mainstay and force in the program for the next several years.
