High School Team Preview: Sam Houston

PBR Louisiana Staff
PBR Louisiana

The Louisiana high school season kicks off on February 24th, the first day for regular season games. Most teams began practice on January 27th, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Stat Rat (X-Factor)

The 2020 Sam Houston Broncos look to make another run behind the efforts of 2020 RHP Kyle Bartley and 2021 RHP Marcus Mott. Bartley, Southeastern Louisiana recruit, uses a developing delivery with a medium arm action into a high-¾ slot and moderate effort with feel to spin the breaking ball. Mott has a longer, clean arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed, solid balance, and regular effort while flashing a solid breaking ball with 11/5 shape. This one-two punch will look to lead the Broncos in the 2020 spring.

Outlook

After finishing the 2019 season 36-4 and reaching the state championship game, the Broncos head into the 2020 season as a fairly inexperienced club, returning three everyday players and four pitchers. Coach Chad Hebert will rely on several new faces in his 2020 lineup but will lean of guys like 2021 SS Jordan Thompson, a Nicholls commit and 2021 2B Alex Norris to led the way offensively. Hebert will also have a few young talented players such as 2022 OF Luke Yuhasz and 2023 C Cameron Christ. The Broncos should make another push for the district 3-5A title, and look to make a run to win the big one.
