The 2020 season was shortened but there was some quality action and minor shakeup since the last update to the Class of 2021 rankings. As we worked our way through the winter and early spring, both on the state and national levels, more light has been shed on this talented and deep class. After the preseason update saw some minor changes towards the top of the rankings, the early season action has provided some shakeup in the middle and later portions of the list, which has now been expanded to 170 players. Here are some highlights in the update...

+ Louisiana State recruit, SS Connor Simon (St. Paul’s HS, LA) remains atop the updated class of 2021 rankings. An athletic 6-foot  middle infielder, Simon has established himself as a premium defender at a premium position. Since entering high school, he’s shown advanced feel and instincts to defend at shortstop with soft hands, actions, and arm strength across. The latest development with Simon has been the development with the bat. As he continues to add strength, the bat makes consistent jumps.

+Louisiana State recruit, OF Josh Pearson (West Monroe HS, LA) and Mississippi State recruit, RHP Jack Walker (Barbe HS, LA) trade spots at No. 2 & 3 as the left-handed hitting Pearson got off to a fast start this spring and power right-hander Walker was forced to the shelf with an injury.

+ Mississippi recruit, RHP Blake McGehee (Tioga HS, LA) made a jump into the Top 10 after exploding onto the scene last summer, showing an efficient delivery, above average stuff and plus pitchability at the 2019 PBR Future Games. McGehee also got of to an impressive start in the spring season and checks-in at No. 8 in Louisiana’s 2021 class.

+ Alabama recruit, RHP Kade Woods (Ouachita Christian HS, LA) makes his debut in the 2021 rankings after reclassifying from the 2022 class. The mature right-hander has already shown big velo on the mound and fits right into the 2021, checking in at No. 13.

+ Tulane recruit, RHP/SS Landry Alligood (Anacoco HS, LA) checks in with the biggest jump in this update as he moves from No. 58 to No. 25. Alligood has flashed a fastball up to 89 mph with feel for a slider and changeup. He’s also put up big measurables on the position player side, most notably blasting a 101 mph exit velocity.
