Our Week 5 Edition of Diamond Notes are here, as we highlight some of the top performances, from across the state in Week 5 (03/20/23-03/26/23), as well as our Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week. Pitcher of the Week

Sidney Loughlin RHP / 3B / Episcopal School of Acadiana, LA / 2024The uncommitted junior right-hander did a little bit of everything for Episcopal of Acadiana, as they went 3-1 in Week 5. On the mound, however, is where Loughlin really shined for the Falcons. On Tuesday, 03/21/23, he tossed a 6 inning no-hitter against Hathaway with only 1 BB and 17 K's. Loughlin then came out of the bullpen on Saturday against Westminster Christian to earn his second win of the week, after tossing another 2 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, giving up only 1 BB with 4 K's. In total, Loughlin went 2-0 for the week over 8 1/3 IP, giving up 0 H and 0 ER with 2 BB and 21 K's. He also helped his caused at the plate, by going 6-10 (.600) with 3 2B's, 3 R, and 3 RBI's.

Player of the Week

Wes Carr SS / 2B / Mandeville, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 8
The former Future Gamer had a really good showing in Week 5 for Mandeville, especially when the Skippers needed it most on Saturday against Catholic BR HS. Mandeville lost the first two games of the series against the Bears, before meeting up again on Saturday for Game 3. The Skippers got down 3-0 early, before Carr belted a two-run HR in the bottom of the 3rd, to cut the Catholic BR lead to 3-2. The Bears scratched another run in the top of the 4th to make it a 4-2 game, and Carr came up again in the bottom of the 4th and delivered another three-run HR, which put Mandeville up 5-4, and the Skippers ended up winning the game 6-5. On the week, Carr finished 4-12 (.333) with 2 HR and 1 3B, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5.

Trip Dobson III 3B / RHP / Catholic, LA / 2024The Houston commit has been a staple in the Bears order since last season and he’s continued to swing the bat well this year. Dobson went 5-12 (.417) with a HR, 3 R, and 2 RBI last week for Catholic BR. |

Zach Schoenborn C / RHP / Parkway , LA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 41 / POS: 5
The ‘21 Future Gamer hits in the middle of a Parkway order that has been on fire over the last couple of weeks. The Northwestern State University recruit went 4-10 (.400) with a R and 2 RBI’s, while also drawing 2 BB’s. |

Brandon Levy SS / RHP / Parkway, LA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 5
Levy has been a fixture in the Panthers lineup since he stepped foot on campus and he’s continued to swing the bat well as a senior. Last week, he went 5-12 (.417) with a 3B, 3 R, and 4 RBI. |

Jake Smith SS / 2B / Rosepine, LA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 14 / POS: 4
The two-time Class 2A State Champion and table-setter for the Eagles continues to perform week in and week out. In Week 5, the Louisiana Tech signee went 5-9 (.556) with 3 2B’s, 8 R, and 2 RBI, while also drawing 2 BB’s. |

Hunter Azemar C / 3B / Southside, LA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 67 / POS: 9
The Holmes Community College recruit hits in the middle of a talented Southside lineup and he enjoyed a really nice week 5. Azemar went 4-8 (.500) at the plate with a 2B and a RBI, while also drawing 2 BB’s. |

Gavin Panks C / 3B / Covington, LA / 2025The uncommitted sophomore has been hitting leadoff for the Lions and has produced this season. Last week, Panks went 2-5 (.400) at the plate with a 3B and 4 R, while also walking 5 times. |

Tyler Hughes C / RHP / Red River, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 83 / POS: 8
Hughes had a big week for Red River, both at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, he went 7-18 (.389) with a 3B, 6 R, and 5 RBI, while also drawing 3 BB’s and stealing 2 bases. On the mound, Hughes went 2-0 last week with a complete game no-hitter against Saline and a complete game win against Delhi Charter. |

Jackson Beddoe SS / 3B / Sulphur , LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 9
The uncommitted sophomore swung the bat well in week 5 for the Tors. Beddoe went 8-18 (.444) at the plate with 3 2B’s, 7 R, and 6 RBI, while also swiping 5 bases. He also played flawless defense at second base, committing zero errors last week. |

Luke Benoit C / 3B / Sulphur , LA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 47 / POS: 6
The UT-Tyler recruit has been a “swiss-army knife” for Head Coach Sam Moore this season and in Week 5, he turned in a great performance on the mound. Benoit toss a complete game shutout against St. Amant, allowing only 2 H, while recording 5 K’s. |

Jackson Legg LHP / LHP / Calvary Baptist, LA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 55 / POS: 7
The LSU-Eunice recruit has become a regular in our Diamond Notes and he makes another appearance this week. Last week, Legg went 5-9 (.556) at the plate with a HR, 2B, 6 R, and 4 RBI. On the mound, he earned a win by tossing 3 shutout innings with 5 K’s. |

Aubrey Hermes 3B / SS / Calvary Baptist, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 46 / POS: 5
The uncommitted OF/WR1 went 7-14 (.500) last week with 4 2B, 4 R, and 6 RBI. Hermes also tossed 2 shutout innings on the mound with 2 K’s. |

Fontenot, an uncommitted southpaw, turned in another good performance on the mound last week for the Cavaliers. He earned a win, after tossing 6 ⅓ innings, while giving up only 1 H and 1 ER with 8 K’s. |
