Stock Watch: Unsigned Seniors

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

Today, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana takes a look at three unsigned seniors that have significantly increased their stock in the recent past. Throughout the spring and summer months, our scouting staff has been on the road scouting high school and legion games, as well as select ball tournaments and its own summer event schedule.

Let’s dive into the three 2018 prospects that are on the rise, but remain unsigned in this week’s Stock Watch:

Matthew Barthelemy RHP / 2B / Belle Chasse, LA / 2018

Relatively unknown prior to this summer, Barthelemy was a standout during June's Top Prospect Games, showing athleticism as an infielder and quick arm speed with projection on the mound.

Athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 6.79 60-yard dash. Infielder with decent hands and footwork, making quick, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy, produced a positional velocity of 83 mph. Outfielder with developing hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while fielding balls deep. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with some accuracy on throws, produced a positional velocity of 90 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, works backwards in load with leg lift, and solid balance. Line-drive type approach with slight bar that works inside the baseball; produced exit velocity of 87 mph.

Brennan Lambert C / 1B / Catholic (BR), LA / 2018

Lambert has been a staple behind the dish, as well as the middle of the order for perennial powerhouse Cathiolic(BR). Throughout the spring season, and culminating at July's Underclass Games, Lambert has continued to show a quality defend tool with quality blocking skills, and receives the baseball easily with soft handfs.

Medium 5-foot-10, 185-pound catcher with a strong, athletic frame. Solid defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and quick, clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 74 mph and a pop time of 2.01-2.13. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, smooth load, short stride and quality lower half. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path that creates quality extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 88 mph. Also posted a 7.6 60 yard dash.

Conner Wyly C / RHP / Neville, LA / 2018

Thus far in his career, Wyly has primarily been used as a catcher, where he not only stood out at late last summer's North Louisiana Open and the 2017 high school spring season, but also this past June's Top Prospect Games. Wyly is clearly athletic however, and during this summer's ArkLaTex Open, he hopped on the mound, showing a strong arm, running his fastball up to 89 mph, certainly with ability to become a legitimate two-way prospect.

Athletic 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, working backwards with leg lift, loose, quick rhythm. Pull side power with fluid rhythm, short path and solid bat speed. Has a feel for barrel, maintains leverage throughout approach; produced exit velocity of 89 mph. Catcher with soft hands receiving and quick clean transfer. Short arm action, inline direction on throws to second base recording a pop time of 2.01-seconds, and a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with long arm action and regular effort in delivery, while collapsing on back leg. Smooth rhythm, with slight up-hill shoulders, in-line direction, landing square and athletically. Fastball sat 86-89 mph with downhill tilt and command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin and solid depth at 68-69 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 73-75 mph.
