Prep Baseball Louisiana: Diamond Notes (Week 4)

The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors.
NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches from around the state. Giancarlo Arencibia RHP / Rummel, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 23 / POS: 6
The former Future Gamer has been the Raiders ace since last season, and is once again leading the way for Rummel again this spring. Last week, Rummel opened up district play against John Curtis and Arencibia turned in a brilliant performance. The Tulane recruit tossed a complete-game no-hitter with 5 BB and 6 K's to lead Rummel to the 3-0 win over the Patriots. |

Braylen Montgomery OF / Walker, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 2
A Top-5 player in our 2026 State Rankings, since his freshman year; Montgomery has some of the best raw tools in the class and those tools are showing up in game this season. In Week 4, Mongtomery went 8-16 (.500) with 2 HR, 3 2B, 10 RBI, 6 R, and 2 SB. He also performed on the defensive side of things with two outfield assists. If he can continue to perform at this level, he'll be a hot commodity this coming August, when college recruiters can begin contacting prospects in the 2026 class. |

Bradyn Cupit LHP / West Monroe, LA / 2026The Rebels have reeled off seven straight wins and Cupit has performed well in each of his starts. The LSU recruit started last Thursday against Pineville and went 6 IP, while giving up 3 H and 2 ER with 0 BB and 7 K's. |

Casey McCoy SS / Dutchtown, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 9/ POS: 4
The former Future Gamer and Louisiana-Lafayette recruit did a little bit of everything for the Griffins in Week 4. At the plate, he went 6-13 (.462) with a HR, 2 2B, 4 RBI, and 5 RBI. McCoy also tossed 1 1/3 shutout IP with 0 BB and 3 K's to earn two saves. |

Kelan Guidry SS / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 93 / POS: 25
The uncommitted junior shorstop is a silky-smooth defender on the dirt and in Week 4, he swung a hot bat for the Eagles. Guidry went 6-11 (.545) with a RBI, 6 R, and 3 BB. |

Layden Sepulvado OF / South Beauregard, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 188 / POS: 37
The uncommitted senior had a big week for the Golden Knights, as they moved their season record to 13-2. For the week, Sepulvado hit at a .875 clip with 3 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBI, and 7 R. He also swiped 7 bases. |

Clayton Folks LHP / South Beauregard, LA / 2025The uncommitted southpaw had a nice week on the mound for South Beauregard in Week 4. In two separate appearances, Folks earned a win and a save, after tossing 5 no-hit IP with 8 K's, to move his season record to 4-0 with 1 save. |

Jayse DeGruy RHP / Destrehan, LA / 2024The uncommitted senior was stellar across two separate appearances for the Wildcats last week. Last Tuesday, against Live Oak, he tosseed 2 shutout IP with 1 BB and 1 K and turned around on Thursday, against Fontainebleau, and earned the win after going 7 IP and gave up 4 H and 1 ER with 2 BB and 11 K's, while also going 1-2 with 3 RBI at the plate.

Payton Stubbs RHP / Destrehan, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 71 / POS: 2
A favorite from our Preseason ID events, the uncommitted junior right-hander has been really good for the Wildcats so far this spring. Last Saturday against South Terrebonne, Stubbs went 7 IP and gave up 8 H and 3 ER with 2 BB and 7 K's to earn the win. He also went 2-3 with a RBI at the plate. |

Cooper Martin CF / Lafayette Christian Academy, LA / 2024The Baton Rouge Community College recruit had a big week at the plate for LCA in Week 4. For the week, Martin went 6-12 (.500) with 2 HR, 2 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, and 5 R. |

Gage Hayes RHP / New Iberia Senior, LA / 2026The uncommitted sophomore earned two wins last week for the Yellow Jackets. Hayes tossed a complete game against Erath and earned the win against Carencro to finish the week with 14 K's across 11 IP.

Cade Durbin RHP / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 19 / POS: 3
The former Future Gamer gave the Eagles the start that they needed against Class 5A power Dutchtown last Saturday. Durbin threw 4 innings and gave up 2 R, 0 ER, with 0 BB and 6 K's to earn the win, as Parkview Baptist upset the Griffins. |

Quinn Smith RHP / Lutcher, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 49 / POS: 15
The Southeastern Louisiana recruit had another quality start in Week 4 for the Bulldogs. Quinn started against Riverside last Thursday and tossed 6 shutout innings, while giving up only 2 H with 3 BB and 13 K's.

Hudson Browning C / East Ascension, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 1
The state's top backstop in the 2026 class had a nice week at the plate for East Ascension in Week 4. Browning went 8-12 (.667) with a HR, 4 2B, and 4 RBI, as the Sparts went 3-1 last week with key wins over Zachary, Calvary Baptist, and Lafayette Christian.

Everett Denny UTIL / RHP / Jesuit, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 86 / POS: 7
The uncommitted utility man performed on the mound and at the plate for the Blue Jays in Week 4. Denny went 5-8 (.625) at the plate with a 2B, 3B, 7 RBI, and 5 R. He also tossed 5 innings and gave up 3 ER with 6 K's against St. Augustine.

Jack Ruckert SS / Catholic BR, LA / 2025The LSU recruit has been a RBI machine for the Bears this spring. In five games last week, Ruckert went 7-16 (.438) with a 2B, 9 RBI, 5 R, and 4 BB.

Diego Corrales LHP / Barbe, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 62 / POS: 10
The uncommitted senior southpaw was stellar once again in his start last week against district-rival Sam Houston. Corrales earned the win, after tossing a complete-game shutout giving up 6 H with 2 BB and 5 K's to lead the Bucs to the 8-0 win.

Marshal Serio INF / Jesuit, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 53 / POS: 15
The uncommitted sophomore played all four infield positions for Jesuit last week, and also got it done at the plate. For the week, Serio went 5-10 (.500) with 2 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBI, and 5 R.

Carson Cauvin RHP / Sulphur, LA / 2024The Centenary recruit had an impressive start last week against district-foe Lafayette. Cauvin tossed a complete-game no-hitter against the Lions with 1 BB and 10 K's to lead Sulphur to the 2-0 win. |

Wyatt Stafford 1B / Ascension Christian, LA / 2025The uncommitted junior had a nice week at ther plate for Ascension Christian. Stafford went 6-13 (.462) with 1 2B, 1 3B, and 3 RBI, while also playing stellar defense at first base. |

Peyton Beck RHP / Ruston, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 64 / POS: 21
The LSU-Eunice recruit had a big win on the mound last week for Ruston against district-foe Parkway. Beck tossed a complete game one-hitter, giving up 2 R and 0 ER with 3 BB and 6 K's.

Caiden Barcia LHP / OF / Doyle, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 74 / POS: 12
Barcia had a big game last Friday for the Tigers against Iowa, as he came through both on the mound and at the plate, in Doyle's 4-1 win over the Yellow Jackets. Barcia went 2-4 at the plate with a HR, 2 RBI, and a R, while also earning the win on the mound, after tossing 7 innings of no-hit baseball, giving up 1 ER with 4 BB and 11 K's.

Tyler Hughes RHP / Red River, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 125 / POS: 14
The Bossier Community College recruit came through last Tuesday for the Bulldogs in their 3-0 win over North Desoto. Hughes entered in relief, in the 4th inning, and tossed 4 shutout innings, while giving up only 3 H with 0 BB and 11 K's to earn the win.

Nathan Jenkins RHP / UTIL / L.W. Higgins, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 178 / POS: 11
The uncommitted junior had a nice week for L.W. Higgins, both on the mound and at the plate. Jenkins hit at a .385 clip over four games with a HR, 2 2B, 5 RBI, 2 BB, and 4 SB. He also tossed 7 shutout innings with 5 BB and 16 K's.

Wes Oates 1B / C / Pineville, LA / 2025Oates had a monster week at the plate for the Rebels last week in their games. For the week, he went 4-8 (.500) with 2 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 7 RBI. |
