Throughout Wednesday, July 26-Saturday, July 30, 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games were held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country selected the best uncommitted rising juniors and sophomores to form teams to represent their state or region in the event, bringing well over 450 of the best uncommitted players in the United States and Canada to one four field quad for 4 days.

For this event, players from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC were selected to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Players on Team Mid-Atlantic had a position player showcase workout on Wednesday and then played in three games, one per day, Thursday-Saturday, going 1-1-1 against Team Florida, Team Carolinas, and Team California. Scouts from all 30 MLB teams and well over 350 college coaches were in attendance.

Naill's Analysis

Casey Carpenter 3B / 1B / John Carroll , MD / 2025

The top uncommitted position player in Maryland, Carpenter certainly shined both during the workout and in game. The offense is above average, showcasing consistent line drive tendencies to both gaps with the ability to lift to the pull side alley, as power continues to develop and strength is added to the already strong 6-foot-2, 190 pound frame. Showcased the ability to hit for strength to the opposite field, notching 91.4 and 99.5 mph line drives off the bat in game, unfortunately right at the second baseman. The plate discipline is solid and showcases the ability to extend counts, however will ambush early on pitches middle/in and that is when the pull side power comes into play. Defensively, it’s a prototypical corner infield makeup that looks to stay at third base, but can move to first as a viable athletic option with a high IQ. The arm strength is average, but makes up for it with a quick first step and quick release. A high contact bat with developing power and positional versatility in the infield.
