The Maryland High School Scouting Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Staff. This running blog will feature information on a wide variety of uncommitted talent as well as updates on committed and ranked players, as well as draft prospect. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocity, pop times, home to first times, and more. This running blog is continuously updated throughout the high school season and then also throughout the year and you will see what boots-to-the-ground really means.

State Scout blogs are one of the most highly viewed pages on the PBR website. It is a tribute to our never ending quest of discovering talent across our area of coverage and our boots-to-the-ground approach to scouting.

John Torroella RHP Mount St. Joseph 2019 (Brown)
Torroella was splendid in his outing against Archbishop Spaling tossing a no-hitter and keeping hitters off-balance and guessing at the plate all day. While he did walk five batters in the seven innings, he also struck out thirteen which helped keep him out of jams as he never allowed a base-runner to reach second on the day. Tall, lanky body type with nice projection to it and more room to fill out. Controlled wind-up and leg kick into a compact, quarter cork-screw balance position. Strong down-to-out lower half drive and short arm action throwing from a high three-quarters slot with light effort. Lands square to the plate with a good athletic finish. Fastball sat 85-88 mph with some arm side run and threw a steady amount of breaking balls at 74-77 mph with big 11/5 shape and very sharp break.
