Over the next few weeks, leading up to the beginning of the 2024 MD High School season, our staff will be releasing our Preseason Power 25. This list will be comprised of public schools across the state that we feel have a strong chance of being successful in 2024. Throughout the coming weeks, be on the lookout for our MD Public School Top 10, as well as a slew of additional preseason coverage.    

#18 La Plata Warriors   

Coach John Childers is back at the helm for the Warriors in 2024 and looks to bring the 5th state championship title back to La Plata this spring. A storied program across the Old Line State, you can never count out La Plata in competing for a state championship year in and year out. 

This year, the Warriors return their standout two-way in junior Chris Coombs, along with fellow juniors Adam Bowling, Taylor Ellis and Ben Wilson who come off strong 2023 campaigns. Look for two-way senior Dominic King and fellow senior bats in Dylan Hannah and Joey Mehall to provide a spark throughout the lineup. 

If the Warriors seek a "bounce-back" year in 2024, look for Chris Coombs and the plethora of depth on both sides of the ball to have breakout years.
