Over the next few weeks, leading up to the beginning of the 2024 MD High School season, our staff will be releasing our Preseason Power 25. This list will be comprised of public schools across the state that we feel have a strong chance of being successful in 2024. Throughout the coming weeks, be on the lookout for our MD Public School Top 10, as well as a slew of additional preseason coverage.    

# 23 River Hill Hawks   

Coming off an impressive 2023 campaign that saw the Hawks win a prorgram record 21 games en route to the 3A State Championship title, coach Craig Estrin enters 2024 with a slightly different feel to the roster as a whole. Key departures in Colin Chan, Riley Finkelston, Demetre Koutras, Eje Okojie and Brady Young to graduation won't make it easy for the Hawks to repeat, however the Hawks do bring back one of the top prep arms in senior Henry Zatkowski (Duke) that is about as dominant as they come across the state. 

Sophomore Ryan Walsh had a breakout year as a freshman last season and will be tasked with leading this new look offense in 2024. Anderson Dang has been on our radar for awhile now and we see the junior backstop having himself a breakout year at the dish as well. Keep eyes on Senior Thomas Jayne, a lean southpaw to pick up some key innings on the bump as an intriguing back end tandem with Zatkowski.
