Over the next few weeks, leading up to the beginning of the 2024 MD High School season, our staff will be releasing our Preseason Power 25. This list will be comprised of public schools across the state that we feel have a strong chance of being successful in 2024. Throughout the coming weeks, be on the lookout for our MD Public School Top 10, as well as a slew of additional preseason coverage.    

#4 Walter Johnson Wildcats 

If you're looking for a team that has depth and firepower on both sides of the ball, the Wildcats have it and the excitement for Walter Johnson is through the roof. Experienced arms, top-end talent at the dish, and a coaching staff that is hungry for a deep run certainly bode well for WJ.

On the bump, senior leader Jay Wandell is back and will be the front-end starter for coach Sutherland, with fellow seniors Aidan Watts and Vance Bonior providing depth throughout. Junior Nolan Ross and sophomore Spencer Gilcrest will also provide key innings.

Offensively, senior standout Vance Bonior will lead the offense in the middle of the order with a plethora of highly talented players throughout the lineup looking to provide a spark. Two-way Jay Wandell will be a key bat in the lineup with senior Jake Goldberg, juniors Brady Chan, and Shaun Rudick, and a highly exciting freshman in Franklin Zerpa providing some thump throughout. 

This roster on paper is loaded with top-end talent on both sides with experience and depth throughout.
