Team of The Week: L’Anse Creuse High School

This week’s team of the week for Prep Baseball Report Michigan is L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township. They are led by longtime head coach Bob Walmsley.

The Lancers compete in the Macomb Area Conference (MAC) White Division. When speaking with the coach recently he talked about that this is the first time for him that his squad has a mixed bag of heavy contributors. The squad has 4 seniors, 4 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshman making everyday contributions to the Lancers ball club. The club is currently tied for third with an 8-6 record in conference and an 18-13 overall record.

But that did not stop them from one of their most competitive and best stretches of the year earlier in the season.

They played a state quarterfinalist in 2013 in Detroit Western and won 13-1 with 4 HR

The next day they played a DH and swept the day with wins over 2013 state champion Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (4-3), and 2013 state runner-up in Richmond (9-2).

His top contributors to his club include a pair of senior pitchers in RHP Dan Bailey (7-3, 1.70 ERA) and LHP Joe Marola (4-5, 1.4 ERA). Bailey is currently committed to NAIA Marygrove in Detroit while Marola will try and walk-on to the Central Michigan University baseball team this fall.

At the plate he is led by two juniors in UTL/OF Adam Redoute and C Aaron Gonzalez. Redoute leads the Lancers with 25 runs batted in, 2 home runs and 12 stolen bases. He is an astounding student and is currently considering programs in the Ivy League with Dartmouth and Columbia being the top two. Gonzalez is second on the team with 22 runs batted in and 1 home run and is projected to stick at catcher long term as he is being looked at mainly by Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State.
