Marquette SS Keith Grieshaber Continues to Excel

By Charlie Meyer
Missouri Scout/Writer

Starting varsity as a freshman at a high level high school team is no easy task. Starting varsity as a freshman in high school and hitting over .400 is almost a daunting task. Keith Grieshaber surpassed both of these in his freshman year with ease. The middle infielder hit .441 in his first year at Marquette High School.

Fast forward to his Junior year and Grieshaber is manning the leadoff position for the Mustangs. He is hitting .333 with an on-base percentage of .429. Grieshaber has developed an excellent eye at the plate with more than 37 walks in his past three seasons combined.

Ranked No. 9 in Missouri and No. 55 in the combined rankings, Grieshaber brings a very free-and-easy type of swing. When he keeps his strike zone small, he is most dangerous. He can take a walk and wreak havoc on the base path or put a ball into the gap with good power.

In the field Grieshaber uses very soft and elusive hands to vacuum up groundballs. Grieshaber has been clocked at 86 mph across the diamond to add to his deep range at shortstop.

The Mustangs shortstop is headed to Arkansas when his high school career is over. He projects well to play at the next level with his free-and-easy swing along with his ability in the field. If not at shortstop, Grieshaber could easily get himself in the lineup quickly for the Razorbacks as a second baseman.
