Team Missouri Future Games: Game 3 Notes

From July 27th to July 30th, the Prep Baseball Report staff will host the PBR Future Games at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia.

This one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted Class of 2024 prospects and select 2025 prospects from our 40-plus state coverage area and Canada. In years past, more than 330 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance.

Despite dropping the week’s last games to the Carolinas, there were still a few prospects that impressed throughout the game. More on them, found below.

GAME THREE TAKEAWAYS

+ Arguably one of the top pitching performances across the entire Future Games came via RHP John-Paul Sauer (Jackson, 2024) in his start on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander punched out six batters over two innings of work, attacking hitters with an 88-91 mph fastball on the corners. The separator for Sauer was his ability to rip off several sharp swing-and-miss sliders in the upper-70s, averaging 2,400-to-2,500 RPM on the pitch. We’ve seen him control an advanced four-pitch mix previously and his complete confidence in said arsenal unlocks a relatively high-ceiling for Sauer down the road.

+ Following Sauer in relief, RHP Timothy Teixeira (Liberty, 2024) displayed some of the most intriguing raw stuff from Team Missouri’s staff. At 6-foot-1, 206-pounds, Teixeira’s fastball sat at 84-86 mph, peaking at 87 mph from a low arm angle creating an uncomfortable look for hitters. His biggest asset, however, is his ability to regularly spin his slider at 2,700+ RPM, peaking at 2,940 RPM with 71-73 mph velocity behind it.

+ C Xander Schmitt (Lafayette, 2024) capped off his week as one of Team Missouri’s most valuable players with a 3-for-3 performance. Schmitt, who we highlighted earlier in the week as a force offensively, remains one of the top uncommitted backstops in Missouri as he prepares for his junior year.

+ After getting hit by a pitch, 1B Jackson Glueck (Staley, 2024) decided to stay in the box and finish his at-bat. That move proved positive for Glueck, as the 6-foot, 212-pound left-handed hitter clobbered a no-doubt home run over the right field fence. Glueck, who routinely performed as one of Team Missouri’s top offensive prospects, ended his highly productive week on a high note.

+ One of fastest players in Missouri, and the entire Midwest for that matter, OF Jackson Carter (Fort Zumwalt East, 2024) showed why he’s capable of being a valuable asset on the diamond with his legs. Carter reached base a few times, including a barreled single to left field for a hit, though he manufactured the most offense as a pinch runner. He came into the game and immediately stole second, then swiped third, and came across to score on a wild pitch later on - all within a five minute span. Carter’s speed translates to center field, where he tracked a ball down and covered an immense amount of ground in a matter of seconds - something few prospects his age are capable of doing.
