Quick Hitters: Athletes Lab Scout Day - Pitchers

Matt Payne
Director of Scouting, PBR of NC

On Saturday January 28th PBR of North Carolina was at the Athletes Lab Performance Center in Maiden, NC for a Scout Day with the Alab Organization. The scout day featured players from the 2024-2027 grad classes.

The day started with catcher, outfielders and infielders going through a defensive evaluation outside on the 100 yard turf field. Following the defensive evaluations players ran a laser timed 60 then headed indoors for batting practice. Trackman was used during the offensive evaluations collecting ball flight data. The day concluded with pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman gathering advanced analytics.

Below we begin our breakdown of players in attendance. Look for more information to follow in the coming days.

QUICK HITTERS - Pitchers

Collin Chappel, OF, 2025

Strength in a 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Shorter arm action using and over the top slot creating down angle with his fastball. Fastball worked in the 81-83 mph range. Breaking ball has 12/6 shape at 68-70 mph. Breaking ball spun in the 2300-2500rpm range.

Carson Dahle, RHP, 2024

6-foot, 170-pound frame. Filled up the bottom of the zone with all three pitches. Long, loose arm action with quickness using a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat at 82-84 mph with an average horizontal movement of 12.6in. Breaking ball has depth at 72-74 mph (2200-2300 spin). Creates deception with his changeup tunneling with his fastball. Continues to show the ability to move the ball around the zone.

Hayden Haynes, RHP, 2026

6-foot-1, 180-pound build. Quick arm with his fastball sitting in the 76-79 mph range. Fastball averaged 11.9in of horizontal movement. Has feel for his breaking ball with short breaking action at 66-69 mph. Qrm quickness suggests velocity jumps in the future.

Jameson Hodges, RHP, 2024

5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Loose arm with quickness through a high ¾ slot. Fastball worked at 78-80 mph with some run to his arm side. Breaking ball has sweeping action at 70-72 mph. Breaking ball spun in the 2300-2400 rpm range. Got his changeup to the bottom of the zone with fading action. Showed feel for all three pitches.

Alex Wall, RHP, 2027

Long, lanky frame at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds with projection ahead. Impressed during our first look at the young right hander. Clean, loose arm action with above average arm speed for his age. Fastball sat at 76-77 mph with spin efficiency in the 89-95% range. Showed feel for his breaking ball at 64-68 mph. Flashed a changeup at 69-69 mph.
