Quick Hitters: Top Prospect Games Underclass Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

PBR of North Carolina hosted its Top Prospect Games on August 2nd at Campbell University. The event featured players from across the state in the 2024-2026 grad classes. The Top Prospect Games continues to be one of the most popular summer events on the PBR summer schedule with several college coaches in attendance taking a look at the prospects in attendance.

The day started with position players taking batting practice on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After BP position players went through a defensive evaluation that began with the outfielders followed by the catchers and infielders. When players finished their defensive workout they ran a laser timed 60 using Swift Technology. In the afternoon players were split into 6 teams with each team playing 2 controlled games with Trackman gathering information on each pitcher that threw in the game.

Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance looking at the top performers in select categories.

Quick Hitters - 2025 & 2026 Pitchers

JD Mace, RHP, Burlington Christian, 2025
Length present in a big frame, standing 6-foot-5, 195 pounds. Choppy delivery, but somewhat expected as he contends with his growth. Good athlete should solve this as he matures. Slight stab out of the glove working with some uphill leverage from the front side. On-line with a long arm swing to an over-the-top slot. Good arm speed. Fastball ranged 84-85, 2201rpm. Flahed excellent ride when up in the zone. Spin was inconsistent from rpm and tilt standpoint. High ceiling to the fastball. Top to bottom action on the breaking ball. Again, flashed depth and it is easy to see the future of the curveball could be an out pitch. Ranged 70-73, spinning up to 2170rpm.

Peter Boatwright, RHP, Christ School, 2025
Thin, 6-foot, 165 pounds. Tall over the rubber.  Long arm swing.  Elbow works above the shoulder line. Average arm speed. Fastball up to 85.4, 2100rpm. Breaking ball rolled through a 10/4 arc at 71-75, 2327rpm.  Depth at times.

Harrison Sheets, RHP, Hough HS, 2026
Very youthful with a ton of maturation ahead. Stands 5-foot-9, 145 pounds. Athletic with good rhythm over the rubber. Long arm swing. Over-the-top release. Good line. Showed feel for multiple spots with a fastball at 77-79, 1854rpm. Run out of the hand. Breaking ball shows potential at 66-70, 1881rpm.

Benny Whiteaker, RHP, Terry Sanford HS, 2025
Lean athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 168 pounds. Fastball with sink metrics and some run at 77-80, 1920rpm. Slows the arm speed a bit on the breaking ball. Good depth on the curveball at 67-69, 1892rpm. 10/4 tilt. Long, loose, athletic arm swing.  High-¾ slot.  Good arm speed.

Chase Byrd, RHP, Croatan HS, 2025
Athletic frame that will handle more weight, standing 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Good arm.  Long arm action plunges out of the glove.  Over-the-top slot. Fastball up to 87.2, 1977rpm. Curveball rolled through the zone from release at 74-77, 1978rpm.  Solid depth.

Cody Rogers, LHP, Porter Ridge HS, 2026
Big frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot, 205 pounds. Solid ride from the fastball, peaking at 85.2, 2139rpm. Long arm swing.  Over-the-top.  Strong arm.  Average to above arm speed. Short tilt to the breaking ball at 73-76, 1931rpm. Solid arm speed from a similar window on the change-up.

Chase Kiker, RHP, Metrolina Christian, 2026
Good young arm that has multiple ways to attack hitters.  Can spin the baseball. Average frame at 5-foot-11, 171 pounds. Firm fastball at 86-88, 2287rpm, spinning up to 2501rpm.  Sink metrics with some run.  1:00 spin tilt at release. Tight, hard, downer breaking ball at 73-76, 2397rpm. Out pitch potential. Athletic delivery with a natural scap load through a long, athletic arm swing, getting to a high-¾ slot. Above average arm speed.

Tucker Anderson, RHP, DH Conley HS, 2026
Broad shoulders. Physical presence. 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. Long, athletic arm action. Over-the-top release. Fastball has excellent ride at 80-82, 1843rpm. Induced vertical break averaged 17.2 inches on the fastball. Late, 11/5 tilt on the breaking ball. Abrupt movement was not explosive yet, ranging 67-70, 1947rpm.

Zane Culler, RHP, Forsyth Country Day, 2026
Long, lean frame at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Strike thrower peaked the fastball at 81, 2148rpm. 10/4 tilt on the breaking ball at 72-74, 1994rpm. Tall over the rubber. Natural, easy scapular load.  Arm speed should grow with strength and flexibility.

Jack Dalton, RHP, Cleveland HS, 2025
Average build at 6-foot, 180 pounds. Fastball up to 85.7, 2144rpm.  Played true out of the hand. Sharp, top to bottom breaking ball ranged 72-75, 2365rpm. Has out pitch potential. Mixed a splitter as his change-up, sitting 77-78, 874rpm.  Tumbling action late, darting to both sides of the plate. Loads and sits on the backside with a slight coil on the back hip.  Long arm swing. Over-the-top slot. Average to above arm speed.

Cooper Moss, RHP, Southern Lee HS, 2025
Long limbs. Athletic build. Stands 6-foot-1, 174 pounds. Pounded the down zone. Fights for some rhythm through the hips. Long arm swing. Over-the-top slot. Average arm speed. Fastball at 81-86, 2032rpm. Sink metrics, working true through the zone. Breaking ball sat 72-74, 1968rpm. Still working for consistent tilt.

Micah Dalton, RHP, Hibriten HS, 2025
Physical presence at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds. Coils around the back hip, working level and landing on-line. Long arm swing plunges out of the glove, getting back to an over-the-top slot.  Above average arm speed. Fastball has ride through the zone, peaking at 84.4, 2217rpm. Curveball and slider both show promise as they continue to mature.
