Quick Hitters: USA Prime Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

PBR was in High Point, NC on Monday July 3, 2023, at High Point Christian Academy’s home field to see the PBR Scout Day with USA Prime.  Over 50 players from the 2024 - 2027 classes were on hand for the workout day.

The PBR Scout Day began with bullpens.  Pitchers threw in a controlled environment while TrackMan was able to process analytics on each pitch thrown.  The afternoon saw the position player workout.  The day began with a 60 yard dash, including 10yd and 30 yd splits, followed by an offensive and defensive workout with evaluations.

Below we dive into the full workout with USA Prime.  Continue to look for more information, stats, scout notes, and video on the players involved.  CLICK HERE to see all of the stats and news around the USA Prime Scout Day with PBR.

Solid rhythm.  Level and easy lines through the target.  Medium arm action works some to load the scapular.  Loosenss and strength through the shoulder and scap could lead to velocity jumps.  Fastball up to 84.8, 2441rpm. Heavy sink metricks with 5.8in of IVB and a 2:00 spin tilt at release. Slider is still developing, featuring some depth with 10/4 tilt at 73-75, 2329rpm.

Tony Lopez, RHP, High Point Christian Academy, 2024
Physical presence with broad shoulders and strength in the lower half. Stands 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Some side to side action across the rubber before sinking into his lower half.  Works level with solid direction.  Some effort as the arm has a medium length path in getting to a high-¾ slot.  Above average arm speed. Arm strength over arm speed. Fastball at 83-86, 2234rpm with some sink metrics and a 1:15 spin tilt at release.  Breaking ball spins well with heavy sweep across the zone.  Curveball sat 75-77, 2369rpm.

Nathan McNeal, RHP, Southern Alamance HS, 2026
Average frame. 6-foot-1, 170 pounds. Loose hips.  High leg kick.  Stable head.  Rotation through the break of the hands and the foot-strike, falling off toward 1B.  Long arm swing.  High-¾ slot. Top to bottom breaking ball is thrown with intent at 67-70, 2494rpm.  Flashed late, hard depth with some feel for landing the spin pitch.

Jimmy Wormack, RHP, Simon G Atkins HS, 2024
Lean with some length at 6-foot, 160 pounds. Slight coil through balance before sinking over the backside and lowering the release window.  Medium arm action to a ¾ slot while sitting in the lower half.  Solid arm speed.
