Spring Break Notebook: Bobby Murray Day 1

PBR was on hand for day 1 of the Bobby Murray Tournament.  A long standing Spring Break Tournament featuring teams from the Triangle area, the first couple of days of the Bobby Murray was played at two sites.  These games were hosted at Holly Springs HS on Thursday April 14th.

Panther Creek HS  5 Northern Durham HS  10


Panther Creek got off to a quick start, scoring 3 in the top of the 1st and 2 in the top of the 2nd.  Up 5-0, the game would turn as Northern Durham fought back.  Kyle Thomas worked 5.1 innings in relief for the win for the Knights.


In the 2nd, Charles McDowell got the offense going for Northern Durham with an rbi triple and scored one batter later himself.  McDowell kept the offense going in the fifth inning with his second triple of the game. This triple to CF gave the Knights their 1st lead.  They would add two more runs in the 5th, bringing the total outburst to 8 runs in the inning.

Northern Durham HS Stats
+ Charles McDowell, 3-3, BB, 2 triples, 2 runs, 2 rbi, 3 SB.
+ Jackson Bishop, 2-4, 2 runs, 1RBI, 2 doubles.

+ Kyle Thomas, 1-4, 1 run, 1RBI, 1 triple. 

+ Chris Nichting - Win, 5.1IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 9K

Holly Springs HS  13 Rolesville HS  5


The Hawks scored early and scored often, totaling 11 hits, including 2 triples and a home run, as they advanced past Rolesville.  


The Hawks jumped out early with two runs in the first inning and kept scoring the entire game.  The big blow came in the 5th with Holly Springs leading 6-4, the Hawks plated 2 runs with 2 outs to move the score to 8-4.  Dean Collum then hit a 3 run homer to left, pushing the lead to 11-4.  


Holly Springs was led at the plate with three hits from Drake Della Ratta, two hits from Brock Wills and Billy Waldron. Collum’s 3 RBIs led the Hawks.  Cole Bowie and Andy Fahringer split the game, striking out 8 without issuing a walk. 


Jordan Overton had three hits, including 2 doubles for Rolesville.  Michael Gupton had two hits, including a two-run opposite field homerun in the third inning.
