Spring Break Notebook: Cannon Ballers Invite Day 1

PBR was at Atrium Health Stadium in Kannapolis, NC for Day 1 of the Cannon Ballers Invitational, featuring teams from Cabarrus County, Rowan County, and High Point Area.  The Invite is setup with a championship format, where winners will continue to face each other until just 1 team is left undefeated for the week.

Concord - 1 Wesleyan Christian Academy - 12


Wesleyan Christian Academy powered past the Spiders of Concord with a big 8 run 5th inning putting the game away with the 10 run rule.  Six Trojan hitters recorded multiple hit days.  Hudson Lance and Grayson McDonald each had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.  


On the mound, Nick Papciak got the win, working all 5 innings, giving up just 1 run on 2 hits.

Hickory Ridge - 0 South Rowan - 1


In a game that featured two fantastic pitching performances and only 4 total hits, the fans were treated to an 1:23 thriller.  Chandler Oddie worked into the 7th, earning the win, only surrendering 1 hit and 2 walks.  Defensively the Raiders were very good behind him taking care of 20 of the 21 outs while only committing 1 error.


The lone run of the game came in the 2nd off of Hickory Ridge righty Garrett Pyne.  A 1 out HBP was followed by a single from Cole Thomas.  With 2 outs, and the runners still at 1st and 2nd, Coleman Overcash singled to center, scoring Haiden Leffew.

JM Robinson - 2 Northwest Cabarrus - 11


The Trojans jumped out early and blew this game wide open by the end of the 3rd inning, plating 3 in each of their first 3 at-bats.  At the end of the 3rd the Trojans led 9-2.  Overall Northwest pounded out 10 hits to JM Robinson’s 5.


Landon Finley worked the first 2 innings, scattering 5 walks and 3 hits in giving up 2 runs.  Kade Platt woked the next 3.2 innings, stablizing the game, striking out 5 with only 1 hit allowed.  Offensively Blake Gaffney had 3 hits and 3 RBIs for Northwest.  Jacob Allen added 2 hits and scored 2 runs.


For the Bulldogs, Liam Sutton had 3 hits and 2 RBIs to pace the offense.

Carson - 20 A.L. Brown - 1


A close game early, tied at 0-0 through two innings, was blown open in the 3rd and 4th innings.  Carson scored 8 in the 3rd and added 10 in the 4th.  Four Carson hitters produced multi-hit games.  Hunter Burris had 2 doubles while Hayden Simmerson had a double and triple on the evening.  


Two Cougar arms combined on the win, giving up 2 hits and 1 walk, striking out 7.
