Spring Break Notebook: Eastern Wake Invite Championship Day

PBR was on hand for the final day of the East Wake Invite, a spring break tournament featuring teams from the Triangle area.  Below we cover the final four games of the tournament, recapping each game and highlighting player performances.


 

 

Sanderson  14 SouthEast Raleigh  3


Sanderson posted 3 runs in the first inning and never looked back, as Sanderson took the victory 14-3 over Southeast Raleigh in the first game of Championship Saturday @ the East Wake Spring Break Invitational. 


The Spartans posted 9 total hits with Jake Robinson leading the way with 3 hits and 3 runs.  Matthew Bauldree had 3 RBIs.   Robinson was helping his own cause as he got the win, working 5 innings, striking out 8.  


Sanderson led 7-0 into the bottom of the 3rd, where Southeast Raleigh got on the board.  Nehemiah Drew led Bulldogs with 2 hits, including a triple.  Two Bulldog pitchers combined to walk 10 Spartans, striking out 1 over their 6 innings of work.

Enloe Eagles  10 South Garner Titans  14


South Garner overcame a big, early deficit by plating 7 in the bottom of the 6th to snatch victory away from Enloe.  


Enloe jumped out to a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of th 2nd.  They added to their run total, going up 9-4 after 3 innings.  South Garner began to chip away, scoring 1 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to close the gap to 9-7 entering the 6th.


Enloe scored 1 in the top of the 6th.  South Garner plated their 7 runs on 6 singles, 1 walk and 1 error in the go ahead half.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Jared Mayer singled, scoring Trent Willard and Shawn Daniels with the tying and go ahead runs.  Mayer picked up the win working the final 4 innings in relief, striking out 5.


Cole Hansen took the loss for the Eagles, working a complete game, striking out 6 and surrendering 6 earned runs on the day.  The Eagle offense was led by Carson Wood with 3 hits, Griffin Roberts with 2 hits, and Will Modlin with 2 hits.

East Wake  12 Knightdale  5


Knightdale took an early lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st.  East Wake quickly answered with 4 in the top of the 2nd.  East Wake would score in each of their next 3 at bats, building a 12-2 lead.


The Warrior offense was paced by Jameer Minor and Jackson Horne, each with 2 hits.  Aaron Measley picked up the win, working 4 innings, giving up just 2 runs.


Malachi Jones led East Wake with 2 hits, including a triple.  Luke Peters also added 2 hits.  Jack Ward picked up the loss, working into the 4th inning, striking out 3.  Tyler Ellison finished the game giving up 3 unearned runs and striking out 3.  In total, Knightdale made 10 errors in the game and only 1 of the 12 East Wake runs were earned.

Athens Drive    2 Wakefield   3


The Wakefield Wolverines took the inaugural Eastern Wake Invitational with a 3-2 win over Athens Drive in the championship game.  Athens jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring 1 in the 1st and 1 in the 3rd.  Wakefield plated 3 in the bottom of the 3rd and used 3 pitchers to limit the Jaguar offense.


The Wakefield 3rd was started with an Eli Gross hit-by-pitch, followed by a Kyle Anderson double.  Holden Cooper followed with a 2 RBI single, tying the game.  With Cooper on 3B and 1 out, Brayden Schaer hit a SAC fly to center, plating the go ahead run.


On the bump, Cole Parker worked 2.2 innings, followed by Schaer who picked up the win in 2.1 innings.  Gross earned the save firing 2 scoreless to close out the championship.  The trio combined to allow 1 earned run on 3 hits and 5 walks.  The struckout 10.


Jack Snipes worked a complete game in the loss for Athens Drive.  He walked 1 and gave up 5 hits, while striking out 10.  Nathan Bunch led the Jaguar offense, going 1-2 with a double, walk, and a run scored.
