Wienand Walk-Off Propels Cape Fear

Wienand Walks it Off in Extras for Cape Fear to Advance....

It took 8 innings for Cape Fear to capture the first round victory at home versus West Johnston.  The game featured by two 2025 lefty studs on the mound.  Caden Jeffrey toed the rubber for Cape Fear and Kolby Jarman took to the hill for West Johnston.  

West jumped out 2-0 in the 4th off a bases loaded drawn walk by Fletcher Manly and a sac fly by Alex Wilson.  Cape Fear answered in the bottom half of the frame by plating 3 runs themselves.  Hunter Darden drew a bases loaded walk and a single by Lucca Pascarella which plated the other two runs for a 3-2 lead.  

West evened things back up in the 6th as Alex Wilson collected an RBI.  West took the lead in the 7th as Senior Dylan Krol smoked an RBI double.  

Cape Fear was down to their last pitch of the game with no one on and an 0-2 count when Evan Bunch kept the game going with a swinging bunt off an 85mph fastball by Dylan Krol.  Two hitters later, Ethan Plesser collected the game tying RBI as he drew a bases loaded walk, sending the contest to extras.  

West came up short in the top half of the 8th with some questionable base running as the inning ended out on the base paths.  Ethan Wienand led off the bottom of the 8th and took the second pitch fastball dead center of the fence with a walk off solo shot as Cape Fear moves onto the second round with a 5-4 victory.

Cape Fear is scheduled to play Friday against the winner of the Franklinton and West Carteret game that is scheduled for Wednesday night.
