Fairfield Warde Has High Hopes This Season

FAIRFIELD, Ct. - Brett Connors has hopes that the 2021 season will be one to remember at Fairfield Warde.

After all, there are a host of returning players along with some promising newcomers ready to lead the charge for the sixth-year head coach of the Mustangs.

Offense, speed, pitching and defense are strengths this year according to Connors, who led the 2016 Fairfield Warde team to the Class LL state title game where they lost to Amity.

“We have hard workers who love the game,” pointed out Connors, who has a trio of college commits on this year’s roster.

Declan O’Hara, one of the team captains, is a senior outfielder rated 25th in the 2021 class who will play at Salve Regina while Elliott Hyde is a senior ranked 29th among left-handed pitchers in his class who is headed to play collegiately at Eastern Connecticut State.

Additionally,  Roman DiGiacomo is a junior catcher committed to Duke and John Heitzman is a junior outfielder ranked 19th in the 2022 class headed to Quinnipiac.

Senior Edmond Hogan is another captain on Fairfield Warde and will pitch while Jack Corcoran, a DH/C/1B, is one more returnee in the senior class.

Adding to this year’s strong roster are juniors Zach Broderick, the 10th-ranked 2022 left-handed pitcher in New England who will also play first base, and Jake Balogh, the 29th-rated 2022 outfielder. Sophomores Garrett Larsen, Griffin Polley and Jack Passeck are others ready to contribute, Larsen at shortstop, Poley at third base and pitcher, and Passeck on the mound.

“We should compete at the top of the conference and states,” added Connors, who had high expectations a year ago before covid brought a cancellation to the 2020 season for the Mustangs and seniors like Phil Hogan (University of Chicago), Matthew Robinson (Springfield College), L. Christopher Saladin (Yale) and Ben Steele (Salve Regina).
