Game Notes: (#1) Basic Academy vs. (#2) Palo Verde

Brett Harrison
West Coast Supervisor

The Panthers looked in control through the 4, but the Wolves answered in the 5th, then added in 6th as they put up 7 runs over the two innings to take a commanding lead and ultimately the win. Palo put up two in the bottom of the first with the top of the their lineup continuing to do damage as they have all Spring with a spark from Uncommitted Junior, Jace Jeffries, singling to RF then being brought in with another single to RF by Oregon commit, Tanner Johns. Zach Bender cruised through his first four IP with each of his three pitching working effectively in the zone. But in the 5th, the three Southisenes working their way on base then was singled in by Texas A&M commit, Andruw Giles, and 2023 Future Games alum, Lyndon Lee. They continued to produce tough at-bats into the 6th with four more runs coming across with the help of the top for the Wolves order, pulling away and securing the victory.

+ Ty Southisene, 2024 IF - The 2023 All-American and Future Games alum continued to get settled in against one of the state's top arms as the game progressed racking up a pair of key singles to get a big 5th inning started and then helped add to the lead in the 6th. Southisene has proven time and time again that he is not only the states top player, but one of the most talented players in the country with advanced actions and IQ present throughout his game. The attention from pro teams have been obvious and we expect him to continue to draw the significant attention as the 2024 MLB Draft approaches this Summer.

+ Ethan Clauss, 2025 IF - The states top ranked 2025 and 2023 All-American continued to produce quality at-bats this Spring with an advanced approach at the plate to go with a high level of understanding of the zone, rarely chasing pitches and staying within his plan. This Spring, his power is now starting to shine through as well as his ability to drive the ball the big part of the yard which was on display yesterday as he drove an opposite field, standup double in the bottom of the 3rd. This is a prospect we expect to continue seeing his stock rise over the next year as the 2025 MLB Draft approaches.

+ Tate Southisene, 2025 IF/OF - The USC commit quietly had a massive day for the Wolves with a perfect 3 for 3 effort that helped keep the line moving each at-bat. The #2 ranked 2025 continues to prove himself as one of the top bats in Nevada, regardless of class with present feel for the barrel to go along with his power potential, now transitioned into present power. Southisene is set to attend the 2024 Prep Baseball ProCase - West and is looking to solidify himself as a legitimate pro prospect over the next year.

+ Troy Southisene, 2026 IF/OF - The 2023 Future Games standout had himself a day yesterday, adding a pair of hits along with a pair of runs and an RBI to help lead Basic
Academy to the key win against #2 ranked Palo Verde. Southisene has showcased himself as a Swiss Army Knife type player on the defensive side of the ball, holding down any OF spot as well as 3B/SS/2B at a high level then hopping on the mound when the situation calls for it, proving himself as a competitor any way he is needed. As he continues his big Spring and heads into the Summer, you can expect for the final Southisene brother to come off the board quickly after the opening of recruiting for the 2026 Class on August 1st.

+ Tanner Johns, 2025 1B/LHP - Johns has been an anchor for the Palo Verde offense this Spring, hitting .500 with 3 homeruns including one in yesterday's contest to help spark a late rally attempt for the Panthers. His obvious added physical strength has translated well this Spring with improved bat speed and improved approach that has helped him come up clutch seemingly time and time again. The future Duck is a prospect that comes off a huge Summer/Fall in 2023 and seems to have started making his presence known among the pro scouts heading into an important 2024 Summer.

+ Jace Jeffries, 2025 OF - The Uncommitted junior, who comes from Big League bloodlines in 2x All-Star, Gregg Jeffries, has quietly been a key contributor for the Panthers this Spring as they have ascended to #2 in the Nevada Team Rankings. His gritty approach at the plate helps him continue to be a tough out every at-bat as he seems to find multiple barrels every time we have been out to seem him. This is a player to keep on your radar as he starts to fill out physically with power expected to come in addition to his present ability to hit for average.
