Game Recap: Foothill at Coronado

Brett Harrison
West Coast Supervisor

Week 1 of the 2024 High School season continues with a matchup between two red hot teams in Coronado and the reigning Class 4A State Champion, Foothill Falcons. Both teams are at the cusp of entering the Prep Baseball Nevada Top 10 Team Rankings with this game playing a major role in deciding who deserves the nod. After a scoreless top of the first by Uncommitted junior, Dillon Victoravich, Coronado jumped out to an early lead with a 3-run shot from Reinhardt University commit, Louis Dion, his third homerun of the week, and the Cougars never looked back winning by a final of 5-2.

+ Louis Dion, 2024 IF - The Rienhardt University commit starts his senior Spring as one of the hottest bats in the state with three homeruns, including a three run blast in yestereday's contest, against a talented Foothill group, to put the Cougars up 3-0 in the first inning. Dion has seen the work he has put in the weight room translating directly to his improved power at the plate that has already begun to pay off in his senior campaign. Keep an eye on Dion this Spring as a potential homerun leader and key part of the Coronado lineup that is looking to make a deep playoff run.

+ Dillon Victoravich, 2025 RHP - Victoravich held his own against a talented Foothill lineup, with a mostly fastball/breaking ball mix that proved effective throughout his 4.1 innings of work. The junior has steadily progressed in both feel for his secondary mix as well as fastball velocity, running it up to 86 mph while sitting mostly 82-84 mph with flashes of cut while working down in the zone, unless he was elevating to set up a breaking ball. Standing at a Prep Baseball Verified 6'1, he still has plenty of room to fill out his frame with strength to come and velocity expected to mirror those strength gains.

+ Bryce McKnight, 2024 RHP - The 2023 West Coast Games standout for Team Nevada has ascended to one of the top available arms over the past 6 months with a fastball that reaching up to 87.6 mph (TrackMan) to go with a breaking ball that showed elite level spin up to 2965 rpm. Though his fastball lived in the mid 80's yesterday, the breaking ball was his most effective pitch, settling in after his first batter and being able to throw it for strikes in seemingly any count. Keep an eye on the 4.0 student to be one of the next arms off the board in Nevada's 2024 Class.
