PBR Canada Collegiate Performers of the Week

Every week, we'll highlight one hitter and one pitcher to be our PBR Canada Collegiate Players of the Week which is powered by Mizuno. This is the 9th week and we have two fresh faces who went off for their respective programs in Cole Tucker and Zach Demchenko.

THE OFFENSIVE SIDE

Hitter of the Week
Cole Tucker, Niagara University

Background: Tucker began his college career at Southeastern CC in 2018-2019 and quickly became a regular in the Blackhawks lineup, starting 54 games. The former Okotoks Dawg and Newfoundland and Labrador native transferred to Niagara following his impressive rookie campaign where he batted .260 with a .390 OBP. Tucker began his Division I career last spring with a six-game hit-streak and finished the COVID shortened season with a .300 average.

Performance: The Purple Eagles finally got their season underway last weekend and Tucker went just 1-for-6 but rebounded quickly this weekend and already has his batting average back up to .450. The 6-foot-1 infielder went 7-for-12 this weekend, picking up multiple hits in each game including a home run, double, two runs scored and four RBI.

STAT LINE: 7-for-12, HR, 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI

ON THE MOUND

Pitcher of the Week
Zach Demchenko, Friends University

Background: Zach Demchenko, another former Okotoks Dawg, spent time at Northeastern Junior College and USC - Beaufort before making his way to Friends University where he’s currently a senior. In his final year of college, the 6-foot-1 right-hander is putting together quality start after quality start as he’s only allowed more than two runs twice in eight starts.

Performance: In his longest outing of the year, Demchenko pitched into the 9th inning Friday night against Sterling College and hit double digit strikeouts for the first time as well. Although the Falcons lost 2-1, Demchenko was sharp throughout the entirety of his outing, allowing two runs, five hits, one walk and punching out ten.

STAT LINE: 8.1 innings pitched… 2 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 K
